Dear Iris and family:
I dont know how I missed this guest book page until now, but I did. After many years in Charlotte, I still recall all of the respect and admiration I had for the Governor (then Representative) when we all worked on that Lt. Gov.'s race in 1974. Though that one was not to be, the contributions that came from Congressman, later Governor, Campbell to the state of SC are so numerous and well-known they don't need repeating. I hope that we will all see another Campbell in office in the future.

Oh my gosh. I've been away from SC so long that I didn't even know. I met Carroll at Spartanburg Country Club when I was president of IFSEA and he spoke to our group. I really respected him and am so sorry for your loss and this late posting.

I lived in the great state of South Carolina when Governor Campbell was in office. I still remember the first time I ever saw a governor up close. It was at the tree lighting ceremony. I was exceptionally impressed. Governor Campbell was a good governor. I hope that God is taking care of him now. All God's blessings to his family.

Dear family,Your Father came to mind today as I was pondering our current political landscape. From the time I was a young student at Bob Jones ,I always thought your Father had what it took and while I was glad he was Governor Always thought He might one day be President!! He was a Great man with common sense, integrity and backbone ! Things we don't see enough of today ! I was in school with Terry Haskins and Gloria and Dave Thomas as well. I am a County Commissioner myself serving in Jackson,Tennessee. God Bless you all.I just felt led to let you know your Father is still an inspiration !

To Iris and family,
It has been many years, but you folks were my neighbors on Fairview Road. We are so sorry for your loss and would like to extend our sympathy on behalf of Mark, Sharla, Andrea, and Michelle plus Saundra Anderson. Even though I live in Florida, I remember all the fond memories of our friends Iris and Carroll Campbell. Carroll Campbell was one of the finest statesmen serving South Carolina. Would to God there were more in this day and age. Know that my prayers are with you dear folks. I remember the time you folks went to our church and how warm and unassuming Carrol was toward the common man. Thank you for all the memories of living near you folks. Sincerely, Saundra Anderson and children.

To the Campbell family... My father , John Beatty, was a volunteer for your husband , father while he was Governor. He was known as "Mr. B" to all the staff. My father asked me to attend a gathering while Gov. Campbell was in office. I also met Iris. I found both to be so wonderful and understood why my Dad was so gun-ho on keeping a Republican in the State House. Gov. Campbell was a very intelligent man, and hope his son can carry on. What prompted me to write at this delayed time is I found pictures of my father with Gov. Campbell and wonderful words written by him on these photos. My Dad passed away November 19, 2005 at the age of 90. The days he spent in the State House were some of his happiest days. I just want to thank you for his opportunity to support your loved one. I feel he knew he and President Reagan had to meet him at heaven's door. I hope the are working on who will be our next President!! My Mom misses him so much after 60 years of marriage. I know you miss your loved one as well. Take comfort that he gave the people (and my father) a wonderful time for South Carolina. My Mom is Barbara Beatty (looked like Barbara Bush) and would also like to send her sympathy. She saw my father so very happy in his latter years and was very sad when he had to quit during the Beasley administration. Thank you for sharing Gov. Campbell with our family.

Dear Mike and Family,
I don't know if you remember us, but we lived across the street from your Grandmother(Sue Rhodes) when you were a young boy. You played with Tre' and Ryan and ate dinner with us several times. You even busted your head open on the sidewalk out front of the house on Tre's skateboard.
We just wanted to express out sincere sympathy in the loss of your Dad. He will be sorely missed. We as a family had such repsect for him and always felt he was one of the most honest politicians out there. Please express our sympathy to your Mom, brother, and the rest of your family.

I have so many fond memories of him, especially as a young Member of Congress during what we called the Reagan Revolution. He was very kind to me, and was truly a trail blazer. An important part of his legacy is the New South we know today.

Carrol Campbell is one of the most impressive gentlemen I have ever had the priviledge of watching publically. He was an example in every way a man could be, personally, professionally, politically, religiously. What a great example to all of America and the world. It is sad that he was taken so soon. Although I never knew him I always took the chance to listen and see him whenever I could. I hope and pray that this great Nation will remember him and the great example of mankind that he has left us. God has blessed us all with his presence here on this earth. May God be with the family you have been blessed with the greatness.

Dear Iris, Tumpy and Mike-
Being with you and the "Campbell team" yesterday in Columbia brought back many wonderful memories of our time together in Washington. It was a blessing to share with you the homegoing of our friend and my mentor and political "Father," Carroll.
So many lives in South Carolina and the nation--some knowingly and some not--have been enriched by his too-brief sojourn on this Earth. I know mine has been and continues to be.
In many ways, his legacy will continue to be written for years to come--whether it's in the faces of children in the Piedmont whose parents have better jobs or whether it's in the careers and accomplishments of Republicans in Washington who have the opportunity to make a difference by virtue of being in the majority that Carroll helped make a reality.
Thank you for sharing him with us.

South Carolina has lost a great political figure. Govenor Carroll Campbell was a great icon to the state. He helped us when we suffered through Hurricane Hugo, he got the Germans to build a BMW plant in Greer and other stuff that he did in his 8 year term as governor. But when he helped us through Hugo is one I'll never forget. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and We'll miss you

I met Mr. Campbell in 1989 in Garden City, after Hugo. He was with Billy Graham touring the damages of Hugo, He and Mr. Graham got out of the car and was immediately surrounded by Motel owners and business men of the area, My husband and I was standing off to the side, watching. Both were busy talking and answering questions, Mr. Campbell looked up and saw us, he pushed his way thrugh the crowd and came over to us, He ask us if we were business owners and we told him no, that we worked for a motel and that we had lost everything, He told everyone that this is the ones that need our help, the ones that were homeless, and their jobs gone. He looked me in my eyes and shook my hand and told me that he would do everything possible to get the beach back and our jobs would be there for us. That day changed my life, I was having a hard time dealing with damages and the lost of my job. Somehow someway, I knew that everything was going to be all right. I do believe God sends angels to comfort us, Mr. Campbell was mine.
You will be missed but then we do truly have an angel watching over all of us in South Carolina.

I truly admired Governor Carroll Campbell Jr. for his tenacity, his drive and ambition to "grow South Carolina up", depite resistance, knowing it was for the good of the state. He earned my sincere respect for the leadership he provided that benefited and empowered ALL of the citizens of South Carolina, regardless of party alliance; Most importantly for being so open about his faith in the Christ and the dignified manner in which he always carried himself, despite illness. He set quite a high standard for us all to apply in both our personal and professional lives. Honorable Governor and Son of South Carolina, you are truly one of the greats and certainly one for the history books! You leadership and influence is sorely missed. I pray that God bless the memory of Carroll Campbell Jr. and God continue to bless the Campbell family.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I lost my father last year to Alzheimers. My dad lived in the pride unit at The Presbyterian Home for the last 3 years of his life.Watching a unit full of Alzheimers patients is a hard thing to see, but seeing a smile if only for a moment makes it so worthwhile. The pain that one has to go through to watch a loved one go through this is unbearable. My dad spoke so fondley of Governor Campbell on many occasions. While loosing a loved one is the hardest thing imaginable, hopefully knowing he will suffer no more and will sit in heaven painless and happy will be conforting. God Bless you and your family at this time.

Governor Campbell was one of those rare political figures who could truly be considered a role model. He dealt with both personal and political matters with an honesty and integrity that are all too rare, especially in today's political environment. This, along with the tremendous courage and faith he showed in the last years of his life, are part of his wonderful legacy to the people of South Carolina. He was a great gift to our state.
