My husband and I have been singing some of Hazel Dickens songs about early coal mining disasters. We have been deeply touched by the horrendous loss of lives in the mines over the years, including the Sunshine Mine disaster here in our area.....Idaho. Our hearts and prayers go to the families of these two recent miners killed in West Virginia.

Prayers and sympathy for the families and co-workers. I have known miners in my lifetime... they were some of the most blessed and hospitable people I have known... I thank all miners for their sacrifice and hard work, for without them this country would certianly parish.

Thank You all for the blessings you give to me each day. The warmth of electric heat on a cold winter night, the bright light that I turn on when a room is dark. The meal I cook on an electric stove, my favorite t.v. show I watch each night. May God Bless All the Families of these West Va. Coal Miners, who have now gone home to be with the Lord. May every coal miner across this land be safe. These are lives that make a difference for all of us each day.

My Grandfather was a miner, lived in the Junior area, and worked all around the state during his life's career as a coal miner. I pray for your lost loved ones, and families. I support, and lobby for a national "Coal Miners" day; it is well deserved. May God Bless each of you, and keep you safe in the years to come.

My family has been coal minning for four generaions on both sides of my family. However, I never fully understood the danger and bravery of a coal miner until I married one. The thought of loosing my daddy or my husband scares me to no end. I try to remember that God knows that they arent tempting fait, they are simply making a living for their family, and that he will protect them. Some nights it is hard to keep that faith. But as dangerous as that job is, my heart swells with pride to know that they do a job that few other men could do. And we families have a special kind of faith that few others have. So to the miners and to the families who have paid the ultimate cost of loosing a loved one....you forever have my respect, my gratitude and my prayers. God bless you

As we approach the end of 2007 and the holiday season, let us not forget our coal miners and their families in our prayers. I was raised a 'coal miners daughter' in Lyburn, WVa (now in SC) and know of the good & bad times they go through from day to day..I,too, have lost several loved ones to the coal mines and will always feel close to that industry...My best wishes to all. I am so very sure of how hard it is to continue on in life with the loss of a love one. It hurts deep inside where you never ever thought you could have feelings. Everyone says time heals the pain. I can say it does. But you never forget the loss. I pray for the familes for the Grace that is needed to carry on and know that God is in waiting for each and every one of us.

In Loving Memory of Our Coal Miner (Ellery Elvis Hatfield)
I don't know why you had to leave us,
I was just getting to know you.
Some people think their heart is really broke,
but if they could have been with me and mom
that night we were so blue.
We just couldn't accept it,
In our hearts it just wasn't true.
That phone call tore our hearts out,
we cried for so long.
Life seems so unfair,
it's like a sad ole song.
Here lately you're on my mind alot,
and I really miss you.
You were a dad to me,
and I could never forget you.
Elvis, you'll live forever in my heart,
and I know you're always in Sweetie's too!!!!
WE LOVE YOU KING

Daddy,
Things are so hard without you here but you are and will always have that special place in our hearts. There is not one day that goes by that we don't think, talk,or cry over you. The baby talks about you all the time. I never thought the day would come that I would have to talk to a stone but we love you more than life and we miss you so very much. You are and will always be our HERO! I don't know why you had to go before you got to share our lifes with Camron and Lakin but I never question God. I know he had better plans for you! I know one day I will get to see you again. I miss all the long talks we had and the times we shared together. They were all so special and they will always be in the front of my brain. You are the greatest man I ever knew!
We Love and Miss you,

As a coal miner, I am very much aware of the risks and dangers that can occur at any given time. I have worked underground in Logan and Mingo county, and although I personally have'nt seen but one major inncedent,I sure felt the pain that the family was enduring. Coal mining is a heartless job, but still, it's a decent provider for a man's family. My sympathy and understanding goes out to anyone-anywhere when the worst happens. May each miner at every mine pull each shift together as teams, brothers and friends!!!

God is with us all, especially in times of tragedy. We do not know or understand his will sometimes, but we must accept it and believe in it. For he will guide us and protect us always.
My family has a long history of mining in Logan County. We pray for each of you that you may find strength in the word and comfort in his love.

I am new at underground mining but I do know that the loss of life in any means is nonsense. I pray for all the familys of the lost miners of this very tragic year. Every time I get to the bottom I think of what it may have been like for the men that didnt see day light again. May the familys of these men have peace in there lives as the know that there loved ones are looking down. It takes a difrent breed of humans to go underground, and also for the wives, girlfriends, and family members who wonder day in and day out if they will see there precious loved ones again. These mens legacies will always be on the mind of the souls that enter there portal day in and day out. So thank you and god be with you cause I know you are watching all of us from heaven and protecting us.

I am origionally from Logan county, and have a very large family history in the mines....I now work in the very same place that I swore that I would never work. I have found a bond with the men that I work with, a kinship that cannot be explained, nor duplicated anywhere...I have been a soldier, a firefighter, a father.....nothing compares to the bond that cements coal miners together....the laughter, the tears, the joy and the pain that we all share every day(or night, as the case may be)...I have never been prouder to call these men my friends, and more importantly, my family. My prayers go out to the families of the lost men, and I want them to know that they are in our hearts and minds every night when we go underground...a miner lost is a brother lost......God Bless.

My whole family worked in the mines all over McDowell County. I know the hurt and wondering if they will come home at night. Thank God my father was able to come out and retire after 33 years. My father is only 55 but his lungs are that of an 85 year old. I Love everything about a coal miner and if I had not been born a female, I would be working the mines right now. God Bless Everyone!!!

I love the coal miners of West Virginia because my dad was one. They give their lives everyday for the ones that they love. No one knows what hard work is until you go inside a big black hole for 8 or 12 hours. God blessed West Viginina coal mining families with the best men in the world (COAL MINERS.)

May God bless you all. Randell you are a hero to speak for all the other co-workers, who were more your family members, than friends.
May God bless all. I grew up in a little coal mining town. I had family members who were coal miners.
I remember watching the mine operations insteading of paying attention to my teachers in school.
I appreciate everything you do. It are the coal miners who keep America going.
Thanks to ALL the coal miners for your extremely hard work.

I may have just found this, but it doesn't mean I wasn't with you each moment in my heart and prayers... My dad Orval Workman was a coal miner, I remember the good and bad times, I have often heard him Sing, It is as Dark as a Dungeon way down in the mines,.. even as a child I knew how it must have felt...but his favorite psalm was Psalms 23, that is what was read at his funeral , when he died of Black Lung.... The Song I sang was There Is Peace in the Valley For Me..... God bless each and everyone , Here and Gone On, They will be waiting for us, If we just hold on....Phyllis Ann Workman /Wisham :[email protected]

What can one say? The pain and hurt HAS to be unbearable. Who can I point you to? Our Father in Heaven who has a perfect plan. Though we don't understand a lot of things here...we will understand it all in the hereafter. We must live with the hope of seeing our loved ones again in the eternity with the Lord. We must walk and talk as Christ, so that hope will become a reality in the end. God Bless You, and all your family and friends.

I would like to let you know that I know what you are feeling when you lose a loved one. It is heart wrenching not only for you but for all who hear about it, I am a survivor of losing loved ones in a tragedy. My husband and 3 sons were killed in a townhouse fire in December of 1992 and I know that they are watching over me. Please remember if you feel a light touch upon your cheek that your loved one who has passed on is letting you know that they are there watching over you. May the Lord be with you and wrap His healing arms around you to ease the pain.
