For Mike...
A real class guy.
This is for you.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Our deepest sympathies. We were just talking about him
today about a song he spoke about a father remembering
his daughter growing up - up to the day she was married
and then. It was so heart renching. Such a beautiful song.
I have tried to find the song - or even the words but have
been unable to do so. Our prayers are with you that
all the happy memories will ease your pain. Respectfully.

I wish to extend my condolences to the Dowd Family.
I loved The Mike Douglas Show. My uncle, Carmen Capanna, worked on his show while Mike was in Philly. Our family would visit during August and a couple of times my Uncle Carmen got us into the show. The first time we saw Totie Fields (we actually were taken in the back way thru the dressing rooms and happened to see Totie having her hair done). That's also the day I fell in love with Totie Fields. As a child, I had never heard of her, but I never forgot her after that. We also went to see Mike when he brought the show to Florida (Cypress Gardens). We were there the time Van Johnson was on the show.
Great memories. There was no one like Mike. His show made us all feel so good. He truly just wanted people to be entertained. No filthy language. What a blessing.
One of my very favorite memories is of Mike singing, The Men in My Little Girl's Life. Such a beautiful song and a beautiful voice.
I know it's been a little while since his death, but please know your family was lifted up in prayers when I heard of his death.
Oh yes, I still have my ticket stubs from one of the times I was in the studio in Philadelphia. :)
God bless you all.

To the family of Mike Douglas:
I hope it will be of some comfort to you to read the entries of all these people who have signed this guest book, who have shared there fond and pleasant memories of your father, husband and grandfather--a man who, it seems, was a touchstone to their own families lives, happy memories and losses.
I think what comes across is that Mike is remembered for the genuine, humorous, warm family man he was, much like the people who made up his loyal viewing audience. So for that reason, he was a welcome guest in the homes of millions for two decades on American television.
For myself, I grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts, watching Mike's show with my mom and sister mostly, on WBZ-TV, our Group W station in Boston. Though for some of the time Mike's show was on, it overlapped with "Search for Tomorrow," one of my mom's "stories," which we also enjoyed watching with her, we'd often switch to Mike right after, and sometimes we'd watch all of his program anyway.
In later years, after we'd given up the "stories," we were free to enjoy Mike's show in its entirety. Not that one would watch every single day, always--though I'm sure many did--but it was nice to know that friendly guy would be there for those days when he was just the ticket to 90 minutes of relaxed fun, music (Mike always opened with a tune) and conversation!
I'll always remember the weeks that John & Yoko and Sonny & Cher co-hosted with Mike; also the school vacation week show when Anissa Jones, "Buffy" from "Family Affair," was the special kids' co-host one day & Mike surprised her with Sebastian Cabot, her "Mr. French" from that show. And "Buffy" gave Mike a cooking lesson--you didn't get that on Merv or Carson!!
One memory, in particular, will always stick in my mind concerning "The Mike Douglas Show," because it was the program I was watching when the news came over the TV that President Kennedy had been killed in Dallas.
I had just come home from my morning session of kindergarten and was watching Mike's show, then that bulletin interrupted with the horrible news and I ran out of the house to find my mom, who was talking over the backyard fence with a next-door neighbor. And for the next four days, there was no "Mike Douglas Show," no "Captain Kangaroo" or "I Love Lucy" reruns or cartoons, no regular programming at all--just a long, sad national funeral on the air. But it somehow brought us all together--kind of like the feeling we got when we watched "The Mike Douglas Show," "The Ed Sullivan Show" or any of the great institutions of television.
I always thought it was great that this funny and friendly guy was doing his show from Philadelphia, when everyone else in the business was doing theirs from either New York or Los Angeles, and that he still got all the great guests too! That is a testament to Mike's charm and easy-going style that made him a welcome host, both on his own show and in our homes.
Mike, you were a class act & one of a kind and you were loved and will be missed.

Mike Douglas was a part of my growing up. I was this sweet lovable kid who got to watch him in the afternoons before the 6PM News. But, I will best remember him as the one who appeared on "The Greatest American Hero", in the episode "The Two Hundred Mile Per Hour Fastball".

As your personal photographer for 15 years, you showed me that being a star didn't mean being above those that worked with you. Farewell my friend, until we meet again in that studio in the sky.

My Mom and I never missed an afternoon with Mike Douglas. I remember how tickled Mike got when Jimmy Dean was on the show; they seemed to genuinely enjoy each other, trying to make each other laugh to tears. I also remember a skit - "The Youngless and the Rest" . . .great title - still makes me laugh. Mike's genuine love of family, life and humanity inspired me to be as kind as he was, interesting as he was and as forgiving as he seemed to be. The heavenly choir has received a deserving soul and I am grateful to know such a compassionate angel is looking over us. God bless him and his family.

Michael Douglas [Dowd]
When most women get engaged to be married they go searching for the perfect dress. Well not me. I was on a mission to find the perfect song. My Dad and I watched through the years and when I heard the song he wrote for one of his three Daughters getting married that year…. I knew it would be mine too! Let just say there was not a dry eye in the house as I danced with my Father to Mike Douglas singing the talkie “The Men in My Little Girl's Life”
He may have blazed a trail through the entertainment community with his Music driven program but it was his personality, Celtic charm and wit that left an indelible imprint on our hearts. What a gift he gave to us all those years. ~ May he Rest In Peace - Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam

Mike Douglas will always be remembered for his wit, charm and graciousness.
His guy could sing, and make anyone feel at home. While his questions were not tough, you could actually learn something from a Mike Douglas interview.
Throughout the early 60's and into the 70's when he was replaced by dimpled face, John Davidson, Mike showed that he could have any entertainer or celebrity on his show, and have a good time.
I grew up watching Mike Douglas in the afternoon and enjoyed each week with his wide range of co-hosts. He was a gem of a guy, who will surely be missed.
Big hugs, Big Mike. I am sure he is in heaven now interviewing some of the greats.

I've never signed a celebrity guess book before, but I couldn't resist. As I heard the news the other day, my heart sank. As a child, I couldn't imagine our lives without watching Mike. He had the greatest smile and his laughter was infectious! He seemed to really love what he did and he did it with such ease. Talk show hosts today could learn alot by watching his show. Imagine wholesome television without vulgarity and smut. Mike was so multi-talented and a joy to watch. You never knew what was going to happen! He will be truly missed. The networks should offer his show in reruns! Douglas Family, our prayers are with you!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Genevieve and the entire family.
Your husband and father was loved and truly be missed by his millions and millions of fans.
It was my pleasure to have met Mike through my cousin, Richard Rome who was one of Mike's musicians. I also attended numerous tapings at the KYW studios in Philadelphia, which I never will forget!
When Mike moved the show out to LA, I also had the pleasure to see one of the tapings out there at which time I presented Mike with a Philadelphia Phillies T-Shirt after they won the World Series. Again, something that I will never forget.
Mike was not only a great host, singer and entertainer but he truly was a great person and role model.
I still have a T-Shirt that Mike gave out at his last taping of the show in Philadelphia.. and what the shirt says on the back, I would like to say to Mike: THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

He was my favorite talk show host. His show began the year my third child, a son was born. I already had two little girls, and ended up with five who grew up watching the Mike Douglas Show. Later on I had a sixth child, a son born two years after the show went off the air, and I wish he could have grown up watching it too. One show that stands out in my mind was when he had Cass Elliott on as a guest host, and she had her baby girl right on the show with her in a playpen. Cass and Mike were both favorites of mine. I have missed the show since it went off the air and send my deepest condolences to everyone in the Mike Douglas family.

To the family of Mike Douglas, my heartfelt sympathy goes to you. He was someone who I grew up with and enjoyed very much, a tv icon that could be admired as the goodness in him radiated through the screen. As someone who lost their father recently, I hope that my words help you - every time someone has told me how much my Dad meant to them, it served to reinforce that which I already knew, which in itself was a great comfort. May your grief be tempered by the wonderful memories you have and remembering all the lives he touched - he must have been a wonderful father and husband. God bless you and keep you in his arms.

To the family of Mike Douglas,
Mike was an institution in my house when I was young. His show was always on the TV in the afternoon when I would get home from school & I often did my homework in front of the set watching his show. I remember how cool it was that he had guest hosts like Moma Cass and John & Yoko and even Sly Stone :-) I remember one particular day when I ran all the way home from school just to see C.W. McCall sing "Convoy" on Mike's show :-) I think he was very cutting-edge for his time with controversial guests like Abbie Hoffman too... I dont think I remember any other daytime talkshow hosts who worked to keep the interest of the younger viewers by having the celebs the younger crowd wanted to see on his show as often as Mike Douglass did. Totie Fields was a very funny guest too :-) I'm really gonna miss the " I'll be right back..."
My sincere condolences to a great guy that was a big part of growing up in my house. We'll miss ya Mike.

I used to watch The Mike Douglas Show every day when Iwas home with my youngest daughter in the 70's and what a wonderful show it was.I looked forward to it each and every day. Those were definitely the days of wonderful, wholesome and totally entertaining talk shows. If only the talk shows were like that today. I loved his singing too. He was one of "THE GREAT ONES" and he will be missed very much.

Mike Douglas truly demonstrated a high quality family oriented show and holds recognition high above today's "talk shows".
