The Gallo family sent a Limousine to my Grandparents for many years. My Grandparents lived at 310 El Rio Modesto . One of the brothers stop by the house to celebrate my grandpa Parky´s birthday. The group was thrilled and stunned that such a powerful figure was in my Grandpa´s backyard...

For Ernest...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I grew up in Ceres, just across Dry Creek from the E&J Gallo winery. I used to ride my bike by the winery, in awe of it's size. Later I would learn that it was so large it had it's own trucking company, Fairbanks Trucking, had it's own glass plant, and of course was the largest winery in the world. Later when I married, my new father-in-law was an employee of Gallo until his retirement. I now live in Washington and was stunned when I heard of the passing of Ernest Gallo. Silly how we fool ourselves into thinking that some folks will just be around forever, contributing always. Your personal bio you gave to UC in 1969, only to be released on your death, is nothing short of inspiring. Thanks for all you did, RIP.

Rest In Peace: You contribution to my world will not be forgotten.

My Family enjoyed the kindness; respect and genius Ernest excel in his presence. I am thankful for the wonderful opportunity to work with Ernest Gallo. His lifetime lessons learned will stay with me forever, enhancing my knowledge and career path.
The time we enjoy the most with Ernest was at a Gallo Farm picnic when I started to work in Gallo’s marketing department. His questioning and interest in people demonstrated his depth and knowledge in business and relationships.
My Family thanks Ernest Gallo and Family for the wonderful opportunity to work in a world-class environment and share with Joseph, David and Gerry Glasgow many wonderful experiences.
God Bless you Ernest. You will stay in our hearts and prayers forever…

This is a man who defined what wine making is today. Mr. Gallo was a strong and gifted person who even taught me a few things while I worked for him. He had a very strong and impressionable presence even when I met him at the age of 95 years old. It is sad to see him go, may god bless him.

Alas, the last of CA's wine legends are gone, along with Bro. Timothy, Alfred Fromm, Louis Petri, Julio Gallo and so many others that made the CA Wine and Brandy industry what it is today. Sadly, we will not see the likes of such men again. Having been one of his many competitors I always respected his drive and elan. My sincere condolences to his family.

I'd like to take this time in life to first extend my heartfelt compassion, joy and likeability of the entire Gallo family, who I had the good fortune to embrace and spend time in school, after school, in the sports department at St. Stanislaus and Central Catholic schools. One of my best and closest friends of my youth was Mark Gallo. I will not forget how easygoing and friendly-open he and his family were and are today--to all kinds of people. Mr. Gallo, you should be proud to be a man who has earned so much respect and love. God bless you all.

20 years ago I walked up to your secretary Ouida without an appointment and asked to meet you for the first time. I was a lowly 26 year old Field Marketing manager. You said yes, escorted me into your office and proceeded to ask me about my job, my life, and my opinion as if I were a vital part of your business. You thanked me for my 4 years of service and told me you looked forward to working with me in the field someday. What a motivator and team builder! I'm still working for you and will never stop telling that story.

I have had the distinct honor and priveledge of taking care of All of the Gallo Family here at Hazel's in Modesto, at one time or another over many many years. I have been both proud and honored to have had them here and to have featured many of their different wines on our wine list. They have long been associated with many world class and award winning wines, and though the founders have now gone home to be with the Lord, their legacy will live on through their sons, grandsons and the many family members who are dedicated to excellence, quality and variety in the multitude of wines they are associated with.

I wish to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. I am sadden with the loss of a fine man who has done much for California and its people. I grew up in Stockton and the Gallo name to me is a big a name as McDonald is to this new generation. When I hear the word Thunderbird, I picture in my head the car, the club in Vegas (which no longer exist) and the wine. My dad and uncles worked the vineyards in Lodi many years ago and I was fortunate as a teenager to help out in the vineyards. The vineyard is a sight to behold, and the sight of grapes whether in art or in the market or where ever or how ever it may appear, always causes me pause and smile and know how blessed we are for great men like Mr. Gallo in contributing in making this state a great state. I salute the newer Gallo generation for your humbleness and integrity in carrying on the great Gallo name. God bless you at this time of grief - the Good Lord is will turn your sorrow into joy in His Time.

There will always be a Gallo "legacy" in the California wine business, thanks to Earnest and Julio. Many of us wine industry veterens know that they raised tremendous awarness and interst in enjoyment and benefits of wine consumption at meals in the United States. They almost single handedly increased by several gallons per capita per year the drinking of wine in the US - and therefore gave many of us great careers. The Gallo drive for excellance also vastly improved the technology and methods of wine production world wide. The quality of the wine the world now enjoys is a result of their passions.
He will be sadly missed - let's raise a toast to his legacy.

When I was a little girl growing up in the Bay Area, I remember my very Italian grandpa always had a huge jug of Gallo wine on the floor next to his place at the dinner table.
Little did I know, many years later, Gallo would be so meaningful in my life.
My husband and I moved to the Valley in the 80's. I began working for Gallo.
The Creative Department at Gallo during the eighties was "magical". It was a privilege to have been a part of that team and I will always be so thankful for that opportunity.
I looked up the word "wine" in a dictionary and it said: "Something that intoxicates or exhilarates." All they need to add is a picture of Ernest & Julio!
Thank you Mr. Gallo, a most grateful farewell.

What an inspiration the Gallo family has been! I had the pleasure of working in the winery in the early 1970's after I got out of the service. "Wine is food. Treat it with respect." I've never forgotten that sign, nor have I forgotten the cleanliness of the entire winery, indoors and out.
Thank you, Mr. Gallo, for your fine example in the community. I only regret I never had the pleasure of meeting you personally.
