Edward Mallory Obituary
Mallory had been ill for several years with a combination of ailments that she declined to identify, his widow, Suzanne, said. He died Wednesday.
Mallory, of Salisbury, Pa., appeared on the soap opera from 1966 to 1980. He played an underdog surgeon who pined for and eventually married his brother's wife after years of keeping secret that he had fathered her son.
In 2002, Mallory told the Frostburg State University alumni magazine that he loved Shakespeare but jumped at the chance to work in television and movies, including the 1962 feature films "Diamond Head" and "The Bird Man of Alcatraz."
"When luck strikes, you have to be ready to grab the opportunity," Mallory said.
He also directed several daytime serials and wrote, directed and produced documentaries for The History Channel and A&E.
Mallory, who was born in Cumberland, joined the Frostburg State faculty as artist-in-residence in 2004. There, he taught writing, acting and directing, and oversaw student-made documentary films.

Ed Mallory was a master of understatement and deep emotional transfer with his body language as well as his speech. To his family I wish complete healing and the comfort of the wonderful memories that Ed offered you and in which he speaks to you now.

I started watching "Days" because of Ed Mallory-he was so perfect in his role as Bill. The best story was the Bill and Laura story because of the wonderful actors. May his family know that he will always be remembered and always remain in the hearts of so many.

I am so sorry to hear that Ed has died. I wrote to him at Frostburg University but I never heard from him.He was my father's cousin,my grandmother being the daughter of Henry Martz. It is Marion Taylor Cumberland , Md. My mother. She and Eddy were good friends and I remember him as Uncle Eddy when I was growing up in Cumberland. At that time Eddy was the "Triangle Kid" for a station in Altoona Pa. Later when I waas in high school I visited him in Hollywood at a play he was directing. He was a great "Uncle" and friend. I was a faithful viewer of Days of Our Lives for many years--grew up in Piedmont & moved to Cumberland in 1971. "Bill Horton" was my favorite soap actor. I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I had been fortunate enough to meet him. You're in my prayers.

I can only echo all the other entries I've read. I loved Ed Mallory and the character of Dr. Bill Horton. My Mom did not work when I was growing up and she watched Days of Our Lives so I did too. (not too dangerous for a kid back then!!!) I was always rooting for Bill - not Mickey!!!
Thanks to Edward Mallory for all the good memories.

Days of Our Lives was such a wonderful show when Edward Mallory played Dr. Bill Horton. He was a big part of the show and was missed when he left, he will be missed by all who loved him. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Death is never easy even though we all expect for it to happen to all of us at one time or another, but it's never welcome. It can be comforing to look at what God has outlined for us. There is a promises that are fortold in the Bible and looking forward to a time when Mr. Mallory and the family will be reunited under a "perfect conditions on the earth and death will a thing of the past Rev.21:3-5.
