Joe Kennedy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2007.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Joe Kennedy, a journeyman left-hander who pitched for three major league teams last season, has died. He was 28.

Kennedy died Friday at his in-laws' home, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. The cause of death is not yet known.

Kennedy spent seven years in the majors, playing last season with Oakland, Arizona and Toronto. He also spent time with Tampa Bay and Colorado and had a 43-61 career record with a 4.79 ERA in 222 appearances.

He made his major league debut in June 2001 and made his last appearance in relief on Sept. 29 in a 5-3 win over Tampa Bay.

Kennedy started the 2007 season with Oakland as a starter but was moved to the bullpen after going 3-9 with a 4.37 ERA. He appeared in 27 games, including 16 starts, before being placed on waivers.

Claimed by Arizona in August, he was released that month after just three appearances. The Blue Jays signed him Aug. 29, and Kennedy got his first win as a Blue Jay on Sept. 21, in New York against the Yankees.

MEMORY ETERNAL!

January 21, 2008

To Joe, Jami, Kaige, & Family:

May you always know when you awake and when you are asleep "Joe" is with you, whether it is the air in the room or the rays from the morning sun may you always know he is close by. Listen ever so closely for there will always be signs - signs of happiness, signs of memories, & just signs that he too is thinking of you all.
As you all move forward look to the sky for the warmest ray of sunshine and the brightest star at night as Joe is looking always over you all.
To His Mom & Dad:
The Lord bore you a Son. A son that brought you happiness and a son that will continue to bring you happiness no matter where he is, I know I am a Mom of a 13yr old son who was brought home also of a Heart Condition and he too enjoyed Baseball, but was unable to make it to the Pros, but somewhere in my heart I know he is playing with the PROS now.

I send you all my sincere condolences and hope in time you will be able to walk along and know Joe is right by your side.

Hi, Jami! It's Lee, your 119 friend from the A's. Andy and I truly sorry for your loss. Joe was a great guy and I feel so priviledged to have met both of you. I'll always remember the times when you would come down and sit by me just so you can see Joe on the mound or see him go by. You and Joe were made for each other and I'm sad he was taken away so early in life. Please take care of yourself, Kaige and the baby. Joe will be missed by so many.

To The Kennedy Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. As Ray Fans we use to watch Joe pitch for us and when he moved on against us. Time will heal your hearts. A Hallmark card was sent to me when I lost a loved one at an early age. It was from the writings of A.L. Frink, the title "The Rose Beyond the Wall" We do find comfort day by day with the memories of the loved one we can't hold in our arms. Just remember as Joe's parents how proud you were of him. A new Father and husband. May you and your family and Daughter-In-Law find comfort with all the memories you can hold close in your hearts forever. With our deepest sympathy.

Dear John, Holly, Bettianne, and John Jr... We are so sad to hear about Joe's passing. I know you all were very proud of him. We were very proud of him too. I remember watching his major league debut at Seau's that day with you all. I remember him and Joe playing with Christi at Moms house in Santee. My son Darley "Cameron" will always remember Joe autographing his ball glove and introducing him to Todd Helton by the locker room at Petco. We will miss him. You are all in our prayers.

My heart felt condolences go out to the Kennedy family, Jamie, Kaige and their immediate and extended families. I orginally knew Joe only as a pitcher for the Oakland A's, but felt that I got to know him better when I was introduced to Jamie at an A's game. The few times Jamie and I talked I was always impressed by her wonderful and lively presence, and I told her how lucky Joe was to have her, and she him. My sadnes in Joe's untimely passing is tempered slightly only by my good fortune to have known Jamie, and through her words, Joe. May God and Joe watch over this beautiful family. They as well as Joe, will be in my heart, my thoughts and in my prayers.
