For Benazir...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I knew Benazir at Harvard. Pinkie. She was a bright, kind, witty child who came half way around the world to follow in her father's footsteps of studying in America. Her experience at Harvard and later at Oxford gave her a global perspective that became part of her great ability to understand geopolitical complexity and helped her to gain the exemplary qualities of communication and leadership that she embodied.
She was a voice for the voiceless in her country and throughout the world. We must ensure that voice endures.
May her family be comforted by the fact that she joins her father now as one of history's great champions of democracy, diplomacy and reason. She leaves the world a better place for her too brief part in it. Her legacy shines before us now.

So sorry for your great lost. You have my deepest sympathy.
And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;
And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. (Psalms 37:10,11)
May these words give you a measure of comfort.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
