When I moved to LA in 1987 from Lubbock the only thing I missed about Texas besides my family was the food. I tried a few burger joints and thought "Why the heck do they all have Thousand Island Dressing on them, Gross!" The onion rings were always frozen or covered in beer batter, YUCK. Never ever could I find a good burger. Then one day EUREKA! I stumbled into a Fatburger probably the one on LaCienega and my guess is that it would have been in 1988 or 1989. Anyway I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. Perfect Burger, Perfect Onion Rings etc!!! I never knew the owner or her story. After I found Fatburger and would go back to Lubbock for visits I would get my normal Pete's Burger and Rings or Tots but they didn't even come close to a Fatburger. I never could ever find other good Texas food like Chicken Fried Steak etc. Now to the rest of the story. Due to financial reasons I had to leave the LA area in 2014 and move back to Texas. I wanted to be near my family in San Antonio but not to close and I wanted to be in a more liberal area. I did google searches and finally settled on a little town outside of Austin. The downtown reminded me of a little town I had lived in Colorado. I moved here sight unseen and I have grown to love this little town. Now I find myself missing LA Food and when I return for a visit the first thing on my list is always a Fatburger. I sooooo miss them! And the rings. I'm working for the town and have been doing some Historic Research and have been somewhat focused on Black History. I was researching some things the other day and ran across the story of Love Yancey. Needless to say my mouth fell to the floor in shock. You see the little town I moved to is Bastrop, Texas. The very place she was born in 1912. I've been here three years now and I just find this out. Shaking my head in disbelief. Now its my mission to find someone to bring Fatburger to Bastrop, Texas (which would be the First one in Texas) and in her birthplace and have a Museum attached to it in her honor and Black History. I can't do it myself unfortunately. So in trying to find out more about Love I stumbled across this obit. I want to research those missing years in Texas. I really wish I had met this woman. What a story. Not sure anyone will read this but if someone does please throw good vibes this direction! Maybe one day I can post that this mission has ben accomplished!!! Thank you Lovie Yancey for feeding me, my children, my grandchildren, and all of my friends and family that came to visit in LA!! Was always the first stop for visitors! Becca

For Lovie...your Fatburger chain
changed the burger world.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

My family moved to California, from New Orleans, in 1971. My dad had a cleaning business, and three times a week he'd treat the work crew to "Fatburgers".Those were the days,and the very best burgers.God Bless, Ms. Lovie Yancey.

Oh my goodness-back in the day (25 years or so ago,)leaving clubs after 2am, nothing could best finishing up a party night/morning better than a Fatburger. Friends and myself often visted Fatburger's located on Western Blvd, in LA, CA. It was truly "magic" as to how the hunger pains were curbed, after grubbing down a burger or two.
Sister Lovie, you deserve the best rest, for bringing us the best burger ever! and I am sure the angels share my sentiment that there is no better burger anywhere on this earth. Thanks for sharing it with me and my peeps and people everywhere.

I worked nights at Cedar-Sinai Hospital, in the late 70's and there was nothing like a Fatburger to help the employees make it through the night. Of course, we hoped our onion breath didn't bother the patients.

Father we entrust our sister Lovie to your mercy. You loved her greatly in this life: now that she is freed from all its cares, give her happiness and peace forever. Welcome her now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
