Geremi Gonzalez Obituary
Gonzalez was killed by a lightning strike Sunday, emergency management officials said.
He pitched for five major league teams from 1997-06. The right-hander appeared in 131 games with 83 starts, compiling a 30-35 record.
Gonzalez also played for the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers. He made a combined 24 appearances for the Mets and Brewers in his final major league season in 2006.
Gonzalez played for current Cubs manager Lou Piniella in Tampa Bay and was on the mound when Sammy Sosa's corked bat exploded in a game at Wrigley Field on June 3, 2003.
The Toronto Blue Jays released him during spring training last year. Gonzalez then moved to Japan and pitched in five games for the Yomiuri Giants.

you were a wonderful person and God has chosen to take you to play ball in the Sky.I too had hoped to see you come back to Boston...Sadly it wont come to pass..but I will always remember your smile and how much joy you brought to us ..

It still doesnt seem real to me. I can't believe that you are gone. I haven't seen you since 2005 or heard from you since you went to Japan but you will always be someone I keep close to my heart. Thanks for all the great memories, you were always so much fun to be around. Our paths crossed for a short time but I am very grateful for it. One of the best decisions I ever made was to go to McCoy that night I met you!! REST IN PEACE Geremi!! Im going to miss you, already do!!

My girlfriend and I will never forget the times we watched you play in both Boston and Pawtucket for the Red Sox. We'll always be your two biggest fans, and you will certainly always have a special place in our hearts. Your kindness, generosity, and caring for your fans truly made for some special memories for us, and we will never forget those pre-game chats during batting practice and the other times we'd chat as you'd arrive to the park. Every season after you left the Sox, we'd always hoped that you'd eventually make your way back to Boston (even in a visitors uniform), but it wasn't to be. Now you're in a better place, but still in our hearts.
