Frank Cornish Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2008.
DALLAS – Frank Cornish IV, an offensive lineman on two of the Dallas Cowboys' Super Bowl champion teams in the 1990s, died over the weekend at age 40.

Cornish was pronounced dead Saturday morning at a Grapevine hospital, where he was taken from his home in nearby Southlake. His death was caused by heart disease, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office found.

Cornish played in the NFL for six years and was a backup with the Cowboys in the 1992 and 1993 seasons, when they won Super Bowls. He started five games for Dallas those years.

He was drafted in the sixth round by the San Diego Chargers in 1990 and also played for the Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles.

"The Bruin family sends our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to the Cornish family," Rick Neuheisel, a UCLA assistant for most of Cornish's college career, said in a statement. "Frank was a great guy in the locker room and a huge personality and a fun guy to be around."

Cornish's father, Frank Cornish III, was a defensive lineman in the NFL in the late '60s and '70s.

The younger Cornish is survived by his wife, Robin, and their five children.

Frank was a south shore neighborhood friend of mine. At 2 yrs younger than I, Frank was always the biggest around. We played lots of sandlot football. The last game we played was on the South Shore HS football field sometime it 1982. As we were choosing teams and he and I were again on the same team he said to me: a Derrick, I´m glad I´m on your team, I like play with you. I separated my left shoulder on a tackle, then scored the winning td at QB with his block. Later I found out about his Dad, and his mom was a teacher at my HS that I had a crush on. Frank was a great kid I grew up with and I´m thankful God crossed our paths. Rest In Peace Big Fella and many blessings to the family....

I had the privilege of teaching sweet Blake during preschool. Frank filled the doorway with his size when he would come pick up Blake at Premier. His love for his children and Robin was heartwarming. Sadly, I just found out about Frank's passing. I know you Robin. You are a strong mom with even stronger faith. Much love to you and your family.

To The Cornish Family: I am so sorry he is no longer here with us, but do know that he is still here with us in spirit. I pray that you all will be comforted by these words:

Try to remember that a GOOD man never dies; You will see him many times.
You will feel him in all things that are here out of love, and for love.
The person of a man may leave or be taken away, but the best part of a GOOD man stays. It stays FOREVER!

Mrs. Cornish and family:

I had the pleasure of meeting Frank thru a mutual acquaintance. He became my broker and my friend. He was always patient and kind and treated me with the respect, caring and consideration as he did his wealthier clients. He was an awesome person to know and my heartfelt condolences are extended to you, your children and Frank's family and siblings. Personalities like Franks are too few this day and time. He was indeed a man of honor and conviction. May God be with you all as you move forward without him. You will constantly be in my prayers and thoughts.

To Robin and the Cornish Family,

For five and a half years I was part of the Dallas Cowboys Radio on-air team, and among my enduring memories of that time, were the many special people I got to meet along the way. One of them was Frank. Having an office inside Vally Ranch gave me a chance to interact with players on a daily basis, and in Frank, there was always a player with class, character and a smile. I am deeply saddened by news of his passing and offer my heartfelt condolences. May God bless you and strengthen you.

I have just begun to get to know you, Frank and your kids over the past few years. I can tell you that I always enjoyed spending time with you because your happiness is both palpable and contagious.

I cannot imagine the feelings you are sorting through but I do know that you and your beautiful children are surrounded by the love of both family and friends to hold you up during this time. It's our turn to help you smile again.

God will walk you through this, so take his hand . . .

Now the laborer’s task is over;
Now the Battle day is past;
Now upon the farther shore
Lands the voyager at last.

It is with great sorrow that we part with Frank on this side of Jordan, but oh what joy when we meet on the other side. When we reach that blessed homeland, Where there's everlasting day; On that bright and blessed morning, God shall wipe all tears away.

Always bear in mind that spirit was never born and spirit can never die. Remember that God gives grace for each trial, and courage for each sorrow and faith to face in confidence a blessed, sweet, blissful and bright tomorrow.

Eventhough I did not have the pleasure of meeting Frank Edgar Cornish IV, I carried him close to my heart in spirit. I had the pleasure of attending Grambling State University with his very talented father, Frank Cornish, III. From the very day his footsteps met Texas soil, I followed his career as an outstanding member of the Dallas Cowboy Team. As I go to my Father in prayer, I will ask for a special blessing for the entire Cornish Family.

With warm regards,

Robin,
I'm praying so much for you and your family.

You were a help and comfort to me 6 1/2 yrs. ago when my baby was diagnosed with several heart defects. You recommended great doctors, and most of all, prayed for us. You were such a blessing to me at that time.

I'm so sorry to hear about Frank. My heart breaks for your family, and I write this note through tears. I'll specifically pray for peace, strength, and comfort for you.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

May you rest in peace Frank. Our memories and interaction with you go way back to the beginning of your career. We remember how proud you were as the center for the Bruins and we attended all of your college games. You were drafted by the Charges and we continued to attend all of your home games until your move to the Cowboys. You accomplished your career goals. We were saddened to hear about your passing but God has other plans for you dear friend. May your family find peace in knowing you did not suffer. You will be missed but we have wonderful memories of the early days of your career and the meals we shared.

Music, when soft voices die

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory—
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.

Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heaped for the belovèd's bed;
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived
okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here
is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you
every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up
and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were
gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.

There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for
me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's
chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life
on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not
be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But
one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a
time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will
give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day
was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the
way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick
him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in
your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember
you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have cross the bar.
