Illinois Helicopter Crash Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 16, 2008.
AURORA, Ill. (AP) - A medical helicopter crashed in a Chicago suburb, killing three crew members and a 13-month-old patient, authorities said early Thursday.

The helicopter was headed to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago from Valley West Hospital in Sandwich when it went down minutes before midnight, said Aurora police spokesman Sgt. Robb Wallers.

Children's Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Julie Pesch initially said the child, a girl, was being transported to the hospital because of epileptic seizures. She later said the child's symptoms were not clear.

The helicopter may have clipped a wire before it crashed and burned, according to authorities. The guide-wire came from a 750-foot tall radio tower, said assistant Fire Chief John Lehman, who added there is some concern about the tower's structural integrity and engineers are evaluating it.

Wallers said the helicopter belonged to Air Angels Inc., an emergency medical transport service based at Clow Airport in suburban Bolingbrook. Telephone calls to the Air Angels offices were not answered early Thursday. However, Air Angels CEO Jim Adams told the Chicago Tribune that the helicopter's crew included the pilot, nurse and a paramedic employed by the company. He added the helicopter's pilot did not report mechanical problems, and weather was not an issue.

According to Wallers, the helicopter crashed in a field near a residential area in east Aurora and was engulfed in flames. No one on the ground was hurt.

being and ER nurse with a boyfriend that is an EMT my heart goes out to not only these families but also the family of that little baby. They gave their lives trying to help someone else. My heart goes out to all the families involved in this tragic accident. I lost my husband, a flight medic, in a helicopter accident 19 years ago. By the grace of God there were no patients on board. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this most difficult time.

To The Families:
May we express our condolences for your loss. May the God of all comfort (Romans 15:4) be will you at this time. We found through the bible that God has giving us a real hope for our dead love ones and how we will see them again (John 5:28, 29) & (Rev 21:3,4). How we all yearn for these scriptures to be fulfilled. You all will be in our prayers. With Love,

L. Cherry

To the families: I would like to convey my deepest condolences. Even though I didn't personally know your family member it is extremely sad to hear about such tragedies. Please look to "the God of all comfort" to make it through such a difficult time. - 2 Corinthians 1:3,4

May God Bless And Comfort You
By: Charles G. Turner, Sr.

At times like this when we don’t know what to do
Just talk to God and he will see you through
When words sometimes just won’t do and you don’t know what to say
Just talk to God and let him have his way

When friends and family come and go
Just remember that God has an open door
At times like this when words alone won’t do
May God bless and comfort you

As a 911 dispatcher, it is hard to lose patients and crew members. Prayer are with all family members. Tragedies happen for a reason that humans do not understand. God Bless each of you and the crews left behind.

We have angels and heros all around us. Many do not think of the heroic actions of those that transport the sick and how dangerous that job can be. Our prayers to all the family members, and a special angel prayer to the little girl and her family, you have a special angel to watch over you now.

I wanted to say I'm so sorry for the lost of the families members who lost their loved one dearly. I had recently lost my mom 3 weeks ago and its very hard to deal with. I know God has our loved one in Heaven and they are in no more pain and are free from everything. It does not take the pain away, but If we continued to pray then God will help us to deal with our sorrow and pain that we have in our hearts. Remember were not alone we have family and friends to get us through such hard times in life. God Bless All Of You!!!!

In memory of the brave and beautiful and wonderful, dedicated men and women who work with LifeFlite and MedEvac and all of the other helicopter transports that carry critically ill people...

And in memory also of a dear little 13-month old girl who became an angel and is in the arms of Jesus!

They deserved an angelic escort for all of the good they did in their lives and I think they got one.

May G*d bless and comfort their families, for they shall be comforted!

I don't know their names but G*d does and He will take care of everything.

With much love and respect!
