Lupoe Family Obituary
"Why leave our children in someone else's hands," Ervin Lupoe wrote in a letter posted late Tuesday on the KABC-TV Web site.
The station called police after receiving the fax, and a police dispatch center also received a call from a man who stated, "I just returned home and my whole family's been shot."
Officers rushed to the home in Wilmington, a small community between the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, about 8:30 a.m., apparently within minutes of the killings.
Ana Lupoe was found in an upstairs bedroom the couple's twin 2-year-old boys Benjamin and Christian. Eight-year-old Brittney and twin 5-year-old girls Jaszmin and Jassely were found alongside Ervin Lupoe in another bedroom.
Although the fax asserted that Ana Lupoe helped in planning the killings of the whole family, police Lt. John Romero said Ervin Lupoe was the suspect. A revolver was found next to his body.
It was the fifth mass death of a Southern California family by murder or suicide in a year. Police urged those facing tough economic times to get help rather than resort to violence.
"Today our worst fear was realized," said Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner. "It's just not a solution. There's just so many ways you find alternatives to doing something so horrific and drastic as this."

However, our Heavenly Father, Jehovah, knows our pain and is near to those broken at heart. He gives comfort and the power beyond what is normal when facing such difficult times (2 Corinthians 1: 3,4 and 2 Corinthians 4: 7). I'm finding it particularly hard to deal with these deaths since I actually knew the family and saw at least 2 of the kids, if not the entire family on almost a daily basis. It wasn't too long ago that all 5 of the kids were at my house for a birthday party.
I never knew what pain they were experiencing and I don't sit in judgment of the tragedy that took place. I can however attest to the true love and bond both parents had with all 5 of their children.
My deepest condolences to the family and to everyone who knew them and will feel the loss of their presence.
