I wish to extend my sincere and deepest condolences to Jimi's family and his co-workers. Had to opportunity to meet Jimi at the Military Paralympic Camp here in Newport, R.I. What a terrible loss for swimming! He had such a special gift in working with the men and women of the Armed Forces who have been injured. He will be sadly missed! I will keep him and his family in my prayers.

I was shocked to read this in the paper today. I worked with Jimi at Auburn University. He was always fun to be around and took me under his wing. His family should be very proud of him. He was a great friend and awesome coach.
He has been a positive influence to all the athletes he coached. They had deep respect for him. I know he will be deeply missed.
I am deeply sorry for your lost.

I swam with Jimi one summer in the early 80s with the Cincinnati Marlins. I now live in Boulder, and it was by accident that I heard of his death on the local news. I wasn't totally sure it was the same Jimi at first, but I knew he swam at Tulane, so that confirmed it. But more than that, when I read what his swimmers said about him, I knew it was him. I only knew him for a short while, but everything good that people have to say about him is so very true. I remember he worked so hard in practice, and he always smiled and had only kind words for everyone.
I'm sure there are so many people grieving for this tragic loss. My sincerest condolences to his family, his swimming family, and all those lives that he has touched so positively.
To all the athletes-
Keep the faith and do him proud--swim your hearts out- he lives on in your memories as well as your actions.

Although I only met Jimi recently in Cinncinati, I had the opportunity to meet a very special human being. Not only did he exhibit a passion for the sport of swimming, he had a passion for individuals with physical challenges. My daughter Martha had the priviledge to speak with him and he made her feel as though she was an elite athlete who could accomplish anything she put her heart to. That seems to of been his motto also. May he rest in His arms. Praying for the family.

Melanie,
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Jimi. I only spoke to him a few times with my son who is hoping to make the Paralympic team someday. The times we spoke he was very busy with his coaching duties, but he made my son feel like he was the only thing that mattered to him at that moment. I feel blessed to have been able to spend only a few fleeting moments with Jimi. I pray that our Lord and Savior will comfort you and your children during this stressful time.
Psalm 40:1

he turned to me and heard my cry.

To the family I would like to offer my most sincere condolences. I do truly hope that the passing of time will help to heal your hearts.
I never had the pleasure of meeting or knowing Jimi as many here today have, I just wanted to offer some words of sympathy and let you know that I'm sure Jimi is watching over you always.

How awesome for a little boy to turn his passion for swimming into a career that changed his life and the lives of so many! Jimi Flowers was that boy, and with his God given talent he became a true man of God who encouraged others with his smile, caring nature, and passion for life. Jimi's goal was to be an Olympian, and that he did. Maybe not as a swimmer himself, but as one who helped many swimmers become champions. He has now received a gold medal like none other from Jesus Christ. Jimi was a man who loved God, his family, his friends, and his sport. It was my honor to be a personal friend of Jimi's since high school and youth group. I'll cherish the memories of my special friend, Jimi Flowers forever. May God bless his family with comfort and peace.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

When tragedy strikes and takes the life of our loved ones, many cry out with great sorrow. Your tears are not unnoticed by Our Heavenly Father. Although your deep pain will not easily disappear, prayer to God will bring comfort to you as you grieve. The Bible assures us God "is healing the broken hearted ones, and is binding up their painful spot." Psalm 147:3 Please accept my deepest sympathy.
