I am saddened to find out of Dr. Weisman's passing. I was a patient of his in the early 80's at Sherman Oaks and I hold him in highest of regards. He was the most thorough and understanding doctor I've ever known. My deepest of condolences to his life partner Bill Hutton. Dr. Joel was a wonderful man to all of mankind. Thank you Dr. Weisman.

I was saddened to hear of Dr. Weisman's death. Dr. Weisman was my physician in the early 70's in NJ, when I was a teen. He was one of the most thorough, patient, and pleasant doctors I have ever met. He left his mark on mankind, and helped many. I offer my condolences to his partner, Bill Hutton, and the rest of Dr. Weisman's family.

I am deeply sorry to the family of Joel Weisman. He had a gifted mind and was a compassionate doctor.
I spent my 20's and early 30's as a deep friend with him and he took me in as roommate in the late 70's, 80's Sorry we never reconnected after 1985. Life has a way of doing that....He always was so giving and caring to me. I miss his mom too. I hope some day I will see him again in eternity.WE will have a lot to talk about.Joel was a dear friend for a special season in time.... My heart grieves as I was just trying to find him today...too late.... truly a deep regret...Much love Joel....Jacqueline

I have accidentally stumbled onto this legacy site....and I must tell you how touched I am by so many tributes to Joel. He was indeed an amazing man with amazing empathy and caring for his fellow man. Although I am suffering at this time with a profound and deep grief....I am lifted by all of the kind words of friends, former patients, co-workers and strangers who recognize the legacy this loving man has left. I know Joel is pleased to know that he is so overwhelmingly remembered. Thank you. --Bill Hutton

I am sorry and saddened at the news of Dr Weisman's passing. Not only did I work for he and PJR, EHR and others at their practice in Sherman Oaks and Beverly Hills for many years, but he was along with the other doctors were in attendance at my wedding back in '89. He was a wonderful human being and a caring physician.

I worked with Dr. Weisman for many years at Sherman Oaks Hospital. I always found him a caring, devoted physician who did everything he possibly do to get care for his patients. It is a major loss with his passing.

Dear Family:
Even though I do not know Dr. Weisman, just the word Dr. tells me a lot about him.
One thing he had a caring heart, and evidently wanted to help people get well. He had something that has been lost today, and that's 'Love of People.'
I just wanted to tell the ones who reads this, that his Love and willing spirit will not go in vain. There is a God that will bring his awareness to the fore. That God has promised to END all sickness, death, pain and sorrows in his due time. He's willing just like Dr. Weisman. (Rev. 21:3,4)
He saw a need and tried to fulfill that need. Well, God is going to fulfill that need in the near future.
He has seen all the sickenss and death just as Dr. Weisman, he has seen and heard the cries of many, and has spoken thru he words of the Bible.
Man is limited in what he can do, but all is not lost. Trust and Patience is necessary, because he will bring about a change in his due time, when all will benefit greatly and not just a few.
He has said to all to Come and Drink life's water free. (Isa. 55:1; Rev. 22:17)
May the family find comfort in these few words, knowing that Dr. Weisman work is not in vain.

We, as a world, should be grateful to this man who courageously stepped forward to create awareness among all people of the world! Dr. Weisman will certainly leave a footnote in history; but to those who knew him, he was so much more than a historical contributor.
God bless you now and always Dr. Weisman. Those who truly believe, know that you belong among the angels that you helped to get to heaven. And those that you laughed with, loved with and worked with side by side here on earth, are firmly convinced you were a angel while among them.
MATT 5:4 "Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted."
Deepest sympathy and prayers to friends, family and colleagues.

Dear Joel: You may not remember me, but I certainly remember you as one of the hero's during the crisis. I was the first volunteer social worker at Aids Project Los Angeles, and then became part of the staff, in 1984. There is no need to reiterate any stories or histories, because most of us experienced them. Thank you for your commitment and love that your patients/friends enjoyed.

God Bless Dr. Joel & may his loved ones find comfort during this very difficult time. This BRILLIANT GENTLE MAN was way ahead of his time as he began his career in the humble town of Carteret NJ where I was fortunate to have met him. Joel discovered AIDS, ran a major medical group, helped create two AIDS foundations, worked in the research on the anti-retroviral meds known as the "cocktail" that gives so many extended life, and while doing all that saw numerous patients daily in the hospital, hospice and office. A man of rare intellect, energy, devotion and love, and the best big brother and uncle ever.

Thanks to Dr Weisman's keen diagnostic sense and his need to find the connection between those few patients, he helped fling open the door and bring light onto dark disease which would touch so many. With this exposure began the treatment, and we hope one day there will be prevention (a vaccine, perhaps) or a cure.
To his surviving partner; Bill, to the remaining family, friends, co-workers and patients; please accept my condolences. Remember, always; that he added greatly to the improvement of human life.
Now, turn off the beeper, don’t answer the phone, ignore the overhead pages Dr Weismann. Those you leave behind carry on with your work.
You may finally rest without interruptions.

My brother died as a result of AIDS. He knew 15 languages and was the editor of many writings. His magic words and penmanship will be sadly missed. Thank you Dr Weisman for the work you did. It was a start that let the world know of the awful and unnecessary deaths due to this disease. My prayers are with you and your family.

Dr. Weisman,
You bring me much hope for the rest of the world. My brother died of AIDS when I was 8. I am 22 now and have done much HIV research with UAB. My mother passed away earlier this month, and she would have wanted me to tell you thanks from all the mothers that had to watch their children die of AIDS. God bless you and people that are fighting this fight against this horrible disease. I look forward to meeting you in heaven. Much love to the loved ones of Dr. Weisman. I hope that you all find peace in this time of great need. Never give up hope for his sake.

I am truly sorry for this heart-wrenching loss. I haven't had contact with him for years but there is an empty hole in my heart where in the back of my mind he was always there. I am forever indebted for all he did for my family. Stacey, Bill and Mark, my prayers and thoughts are with you constantly. Stay strong and know you are never alone. May God comfort you with His Spirit and May Uncle Joel rest in peace. Love, Carla
