I first met Charles in 1976, when I had just been hired as an art director for a small agency in Palo Alto, California. We worked together on a corporate brochure for a semiconductor company in the Valley; I remember Charlie's passion for the project and his insistence on using his Leicas to shoot the job. We stayed in touch and worked together for several years. His intense interest and keen eye were an inspiration to me. As a photographer, I owe much to Charlie for helping me be more passionate about my work. I am so sorry to hear of his death. Charles was truly unique individual and his artistry will be sorely missed.

When I rode with Dad on his Cushman scooter to Dexter Ave. church, I was maybe 7-8 years old. Excited (because he was taking me along) and a little overwhelmed meeting this huge man (Dr.King)who bent down and shook my hand.
Mostly I just enjoyed the days and late nights in the home lab (developing and printing proof sheets from tons of TRI-X)and remember how he reacted when I bought my first SLR, a Minolta (instead of a Nikon F body Lol!). There was a US propaganda magazine (during the cold-war, that trumpeted the American way of life for publication to Soviet block countries) that has a cover of me, asleep in Granddad's porch swing, that I hope and pray I will find in his archives.
Dad, your legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those you touched. And just like the golden-gloves champ you once were, you truly gave it the "good fight" Be at Peace

For Charles...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Dear Moore Family,
Like our heavenly father Mr. Moore photographed in such a way that he realized "...For a certainty I perceive that God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him." Acts 10:34,35 Nik - Lawrenceville, GA

I met Charles a few weeks ago while visiting my father. He was my Dad's roommate. I had noticed his book and the picture of his grandaughter on the shelf in his room. We look at his book together, chatted a bit, and had lunch together. I was moved and drawn to the intensity of his photographs and his presence. He will continue to influence and move us through his work. My sincere condolences to his family.

Charles, I’ll always cherish the conversations we had at Black Star. I’ve always appreciated, and used, the photographic advice you offered. When we first met, you were a famous photographer and I was an unknown photo researcher/photographer, but you always made me feel like whatever photo project I was working on was special and important. It’s been years since we last spoke, and I can honestly say I’ve met very few photographers of your caliber, or should I say, human beings of you caliber. You will be missed. Rest in peace, my friend.

To the Family and Friends of Charles Moore,
So very sorry for the loss of such a talented and creative man like Mr.Moore. Boy, did he have a great eye when it came to taking pictures.
His works captured the essance of the Civil Rights movement, and I want to thank him for that.
In this difficult time may the family find a measure of peace in the following thought:
Revelation 21:4-"God will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more".
You can feel that Death can leave a heartache that nothing can heal, just know that Love can leave a memory that no one can steal.
