Nick Rogers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 4, 2010.
ATLANTA (AP) — Former NFL player and Georgia Tech star Nick Rogers has died in a one-car accident. He was 30.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office says Rogers was killed about 1:30 a.m. Monday when his car hit a utility pole in College Park, near Atlanta.

Rogers, a 250-pound linebacker, spent four years in the NFL with Minnesota, Green Bay, Indianapolis and Miami.

He started 16 games in each of two years with the Vikings in 2002-03. The next season he was with the Packers for 10 games, the Colts for one. His last NFL season was 2005 — three games with the Dolphins. He most recently played for Colorado of the Arena Football League in 2008.

Rogers had 16½ sacks as a defensive end at Georgia Tech and was drafted in the sixth round in 2002.

I met this gentleman earlier this year and he was an awesome person. Pure-hearted, kind, and true to life. This hurt my heart and I barely knew him, I pray that family and loved ones find rest in knowing God is in control and makes no mistakes. May The Comfortor hold you all in the bossom of Love.

What a shock it was to me to read about Nick's sudden death. He was always very faithful to his Catholic Faith and lived it with awesome humility. He was a credit to the Catholic Center Community. We shall miss him. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family. I shall remember him in my Mass and other prayers. Father Mario Di Lella, O.F.M. former Catholic Campus Minister at GT.

To the Rogers family,
I am so impressed with the quality of life you have directed for your family. I am sure you never stop to think of what you have done. The lost of Nick will be with us for life but he was such a mild mannered young man with a great smile. How coud any of us forget him. He always showed me love and respect.
May God continue to strengthen you in the coming days. I love you.

I am so saddened by the passing of Nick. He, and his brother and sister were the best student-athletes that I had ever worked around and I thought about them often even when I left Georgia Tech. May God continue to strengthen the Rogers'family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Life equips a man with an array of tools and sends him out into the world to do what he can. Sometimes his best efforts are only efforts. In wonderful moments, a man's efforts become a great monolith that will always be remembered. Although many years have past since I saw Nick, his generosity and zeal for life made a great impact on me. My condolences.

Rogers Family,

I can't find the words to say the pain that I have for you. I knew Nick from St.Anthony's playing ball and then in 2005 I went to Japan and saw him play for the Colts and at the YMCA with my son that was the best kid ever, he always had that smile and a good heart. I never forget him he left an amazing legacy that will never be forgotten, God has him now and we will reunited with him in heaven.

Rogers Family,

There are no words I can type to alleviate your immediate pain, so I won't try. I did not know Nick very well, but Phillip and I were friends at St. Pius. I had heard such positive things about Nick as an individual, and as an athlete. I understand that he had the goodness in heart and soul of an innocent child with the body and mind of a grown man. Nick certainly left an amazing legacy that will never be forgotten, even for those that didn't know him personally. My family is praying for your peace, solace, support, acceptance, cope, HIS answers to the question "why?", and for God's reassurance that you will be reunited with Nick again in heaven despite the hurt you feel here on earth. My family is here for you if you should need anything AT ALL.

Love,
