Alaska Plane Crash Victims Obituary
A family spokesman, Mitch Rose, told The Associated Press that Stevens family has been notified about the 86-year-old was among those killed.
Ex-NASA chief Sean O'Keefe was also believed to be aboard, but it was unclear whether he was among the dead.
Rescuers arrived on helicopter early Tuesday and were giving medical care to survivors, Alaska National Guard spokesman Maj. Guy Hayes said. He offered no additional details, except that there were potential fatalities.
Alaska officials reported that nine people were aboard the aircraft and that "it appears that there are five fatalities," NTSB spokesman Ted Lopatkiewicz told The Associated Press in Washington.

Ted,
Was a Legend and a Icon for AK. He will never be forgotten. His memory will live on forever. I know that Ted is in Heaven, there is no doubt in my mind. Just know that the family is in prayers at this time. I have asked the Lord to comfort Teds family. Just know he is watching over all and will be with us every day. He is our (Guardian Angel now)

Many thanks to the family for sharing your dad and husband with us. My family will never forget receiving the handwritten note from Ted when my dad died three years ago. I was an Alaska Postmaster for 32 years and got to visit with Ted Stevens many times, took two of my children to Washington D. C. and his office treated then like very important people. I will miss knowing he is not in our midst and so will my children.

My prayers and heartfelt condolences to Senator Steven's family all the families touched by this tragedy. There are no words to adequately describe our sympathy, nor to ease your sorrow.
It saddens me to know a great champion for Alaska has passed on - whether we knew Senator Stevens or not, agreed with him or not, our state and nation is greater for his lifelong efforts. It would be wonderful if all of us were willing to put in the amount of dedication, energy and passion that Senator Stevens did in making our collective lives that much richer - and I don't mean monetarily.
My father-in-law (Ed Merdes) spent his life dedicated to Alaska as well, and I humbly and warmly remember the honor given at his memorial by Senator Stevens and many other military and state officials. The loss of Senator Stevens deeply touches my heart, please accept my deepest sympathy.

I met Senator Stevens "Uncle Ted" as a shy intern determined to meet the man who has had such an impact on our state and Alaska Native affairs. Senator Stevens will be missed. He had a possitive impact on so many Alaskan communities and people. When community members called upon him for help; he was more than willing to fight for our small community. Our Post Office, which is an essential part of our very existince in remote Alaska, is still here largely because of Senator Stevens and believe me we are thankful everyday. The US Army in Alaska owes a deep debt to Senator Stevens. He fought for and got the funds to improve the lives of our soldiers and their families at Fort Wainwright, Fort Greely, and Fort Richardson. He was a friend who will be sorely missed.
