Kenny Edwards Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 20, 2010.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kenny Edwards, an original member of the Stone Poneys country-rock band and longtime collaborator with singer-songwriters Linda Ronstadt and Karla Bonoff, has died in California at age 64.

A statement on his website says he died Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Times reports Edwards was hospitalized earlier this month in Denver after collapsing while on tour with Bonoff. He was airlifted to a hospital near his home in Santa Barbara where he died.

After the Stone Poneys disbanded after their 1967 breakthrough hit "Different Drum," Edwards formed the folk-rock band Bryndle with singer-songwriter Wendy Waldman, Bonoff and Andrew Gold.

He also was a supporting guitarist and singer for Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Brian Wilson, Art Garfunkel, Vince Gill and others.

Met him at the blackjack table years ago when he was in Linda band. Super nice guy and we shared several laughs and drinks together. I asked him to get me a date with Linda and he just laughed and bought me a drink. Just like talking to a buddy of mine. Very nice man and my life was made better by this one chance encounter. I great person. RIP my friend.

Kenny, we can't believe we won't be having Christmas and Channuka with you forever. Maybe we will in another form. Your presence on this planet made the world a better place. Thank you for all the beauty you brought to the world and for your honesty and egolessness. We'll miss you.

I became a fan of Karla Bonoff in the early 1980s and just recently saw her in concert. Kenny was playing alongside her, and I was amazed that the sound of their music was as sweet and pure as it was on the albums I still play. My deepest condolences to his family and to his fellow musicians. "Goodbye, my friend" seems an appropriate send-off.

I first saw Kenny Edwards with Karla Bonoff on a champion eve at Schn'dy, NY's Union College campus chapel when I was still in high school. Again, with Karla- at a small venue in Schn'dy, the music was just as magical and entertaining. Great stuff from two enchanting performers. The music will transcend time and will think of Kenny's great contributions at every turn - Prayers and blessings to Kenny's family and musical companions
