To the Maher family:
May the comfort from family and friends strengthen you during this difficult time, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

It was my privilege to work with Ambassador Maher when I served with the MFO in Cairo and he was Director of Legal Affairs and Treaties at the ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was one of the finest Diplomats I have ever known and an equally fine human being. I send my deepest sympathy to his family and to the Government of Egypt for the loss of this great man. With sympathy, Colonel John R. Underwood, Carlisle Pennsylvania, USA
