Norman Wisdom Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 4, 2010.
LONDON (AP) — British comedian and actor Norman Wisdom has died at the age of 95.

His family says he died peacefully late Monday at a nursing home on the Isle of Man. Wisdom had suffered from a series of strokes in the months before his death.

Wisdom specialized in family friendly slapstick comedy in the 1950s and 1960s. He was known for his roles as a clumsy underdog battling against adversity. He also acted in Broadway in the 1960s, when he was nominated for a Tony Award for his work in the comedy "Walking Happy."

His filmed included "Trouble In Store" in 1953 and "The Night They Raided Minsky's" in 1968, which he made in Hollywood. His subsequent career was largely based in television.

Norman my dear friend. I haven't spoken to you for the last three years. I was in the USMC and it was in 1953 tha we were introduced by my friend Elizabeth Barclay who was from England also. There was a beautiful red head girl who had a black and white Dalmation. I cannot recall her name but she was the ballet dancer in the movie "Red Shoes'. We had quite a time at Mario's on the French Riveria and we becamme long lasting friends. My friend said that what Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis was in America you were the equal in England. I didn't know you were ill or I would have visted my friend but now you can entertain all in heaaven and I know Dear Jesus will not let you go. Please say hello to Pat henry and Jilly Rizzo plus all the others with Frank Sinatra they were all friends of mine.

I love you Norman and God Bless you and all concerned.
