Albertina Walker Obituary
Close friend and WVON radio host Pam Morris says Walker died Friday morning of respiratory failure in at RML Specialty Hospital in Chicago.
Morris says Walker was "a living legend" who was responsible for launching more than a dozen careers of gospel artists.
Walker formed her own gospel group, the Caravans, as a young woman and was a protege of gospel star Mahalia Jackson.
U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush called Walker a voice for the civil rights movement. He says her music was "a healing balm to those who struggled for justice."
Walker was lifelong Chicago resident and member of the West Point Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Albertina Walker is missed by many folks from different paths in Life. I truly enjoyed her renditions of so many Gospel pieces. She possessed a gift from God through her voice and used that voice to spread The Word. As Thanksgiving is fast approaching, I give thanks for Albertina and her gift of Gospel for all people to hear. Be assured she is resting in peace with our Lord in a land where pain and suffering is no more. Rejoice in knowing that she lives forever more with Christ all those she loved in life.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,

We will alll miss Sis. Walker tremendously. She was my brother's favorite Gospel Artist. And I am sure he was there at the gates of heaven to meet her. My brother went to be with the Lord in March, 2004. He was a traditional/contemporary gospel musician. However, his favorite was the traditional gospel. This was the reason why he loved Sis. Walker's spirit and music so much!
Thank you, Lord, for sending us such a powerful messenger, Sis.Walker, on this earth encouraging us to never give up and staying in the race of life praising your holy name until you call us home.

It really hit me hard today when I found out Ms. Albertina Walker passed away. I was out of the country at the time but I just want to say how much I truly loved her music. I never had the pleasure of meeting the Queen of Gospel but I absolutely loved her music. Even in my young age I will always believe tht old school gospel is the best. I truly believe Lady Walker was singing from her heart and meant every word she song and lived the life she song about as well. She will truly be missed but never forgotten. All of Gods Soldiers are going on home I just pray their legacy never dies.

As a teenager, my friend Janet and I went to Atlanta to hear the Caravans not knowing how we would get back home. We loved to hear the Caravans sing. On that day, we heard this great group and were able to return home.Throughout my life, Ms. Walker and the Caravans were always the standard in singing. We will miss you Ms. Albertina.
