Dear Crippen family, I am a former colleague of Pete's from Devon Prep. Although I never met Fran, I do recall, quite vividly, speaking with Pete several times about his children and their accomplishments. The pride and joy in his face and voice as he spoke to me about all of his children was touching to me then, and is even more significant and meaningful now. I hope that your family can draw upon those joyful memories as you go through this most difficult and painful time. My most sincere condolences to all in your family. Kathy Shaheen

Dear Pete, Pat, Maddy, Claire and Teresa,
We want to express our deepest sympathy and condolences on Fran's passing.
Many people know Fran because of his athletic accomplishments; we know Fran as a fine person. He always had a quick smile and time to stop and talk whenever we encountered him. It was truly a pleasure to know him and your family for our years together at GAAC and Germantown Academy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you,

I am so truly saddened by the tragic and early loss of such an example of the human spirit. I never met him, but as a former U.VA. swimmer, feel as though I somehow knew him and can see the impact he had on others. We can only hope that in our daily lives we impact others half as much as he did in his short life. My thoughts are with you all.

The passing of a loved one is an unimaginable tragedy for anyone, but when the loss is unexpected and involves a child, the pain is beyond words. For some moments in time…there are no words to express the feelings of such sadness and loss.
Our family experienced the unthinkable too… a loss of a father, a husband and a great swim coach just two years ago. May your family experience the tremendous comfort, incredible strength and the “unforeseen peace” that God, friends, and yes… even …strangers bestow upon you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

As precious as he was to you, he is more precious to God. The heavenly is rejoicing. I am rejoicing too. His face tells the whole story.
May God forever be a blessing to Fran's family. I am sure he (Fran) can't stop telling God about his family

Dearest Crippen Family,
My heart goes out to you in this time of the unthinkable. I taught Claire and Teresa at Conshohocken Catholic School. I knew Fran when he was in 8th grade. I remember him well. He was the kind of kid who stood out as being an all around great person! I can still picture him playing Jesus in the Stations of the Cross. My Deepest Sympathy to all of you!

October 28, 2010
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
