Between 1948 & 1949, I was taken with Rheumatic Fever & was bedridden for 9 mos.
The comfort of Mr. Foys dedicated radio persona made each day that much easier...
As a matter of fact, my Doctor, having children of his own & being aware of the excitement stimulated by Mr Foy's, narration thru-out "The Lone Ranger Program suggested complete bed rest for the first month..... did I obey,.. NAH!! I did not miss 1 single episode of The Ranger or Sgt Preston.. Thank you Freddie
May the peace of the Lord be with you always....

I continue to think of Mr. Fred Foy every time I get behind a microphone. I think of the many students who came through my video technology and broadcast journalism classes who benefited from his lessons, whether they spoke to him in a phone interview or heard him speak to them on videotape. I was honored to have met and worked with him for a brief time.

Did not know the man, however when I listened to that voice intro of the Lone Ranger as a kid, It would fire me up for another "thrilling days of yesteryear." His contribution of making us proud to be on the side of Law and order was a great foundation of growing up. God bless his memory.

Fred Foy was as vital a part of the Lone Ranger as Brace Beeemer was, setting the scenes and keeping the listener in the loop. I was one of the rug rats with his ear stuck to the radio every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30pm, and I loved every minute of it.

What a nice tribute to a well deserved man. The World Marvels at his strength and longevity. The Scriptures call it "Special Mightiness" in Psalms 90:10. May you find comfort and peace in the days ahead, until you return to your normal routines. May you always remember God cares for you and is binding up the brokenhearted. (Psalms 147:3).

Fred Foy had the best radio voice - period. I bought many of the Lone Ranger radio shows he announced and enjoy them whenever I take a road trip. When JFK was shot, his was the only voice on ABC television during the non-stop coverage of the funeral. He also voiced many trailers for MGM movies. Some things you never forget - For me, that is Fred Foy.

I met Fred as a broadcast student in NY in 1968. He gave me a chance to warm up the studio audience for the Dream House game show he announced. I remember him fondly as the announcer for the Lone Ranger and other TV and radio commercials. He inspired me to get into the broadcast business. His voice may be silence, but his memory will live on. God Bless you Fred and rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of meeting Fred at a roast for WBZ radio host Ken Meyer. Fred did his famous intro of the Lone Ranger at the roast. I was so thrilled to hear that. Reminded me of the radio days. Anyway, after I knew that all the radio people were at the rosat, I went home to grab my video camera and did some taping of the event and I did manage to get the Lone Ranger intro on video tape. I looked at the picture - no memory sprang forth. I read the name - no recall resonated. But when reading on and learning about his contribution - my heart slowed with sadness for another legend no longer here. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I once talked with Fred Foy on the phone and he agreed to let me come to his home in Woburn and interview him. I had been in broadcasting for a number of years in Maine but grew up listening to the Lone Ranger on radio. Fred Foy, a remarkable man, and what a voice! He did the "intro" for my grandfather's radio show "The Lone Ranger" and our families were great friends when we all lived in Michigan. He will be sorely missed. I feel blessed to have had one last lunch with Fred and his entire family when I was in Massachusetts in 2007. Who, but Fred Foy, could have provided such a stirring and forceful intro for that heroic and iconic hero of "the Old West," The Lone Ranger?! I'm 63, and that rousing introduction to the TV series is just as clear in my mind right now as if I were listening to it on our old B&W TV when I was a kid back in the 1950's.
