Tom Wicker was one who gave luster to journalism in our times. My father, another veteran of the New York Times, would always read his column and quote from it. I believe he bought every book Tom ever wrote. I will never forget his courage in the Attica Prison. He will be missed, and we are so grateful to have had him for all those years. Sincere best wishes to the family.

My condolences to Mr. Wicker's family. As a prominent journalist whose compelling prose documented the crises of our time, Mr. Wicker inspired this then-young reporter and untold others to write truth about those who wielded power. He sought justice and was willing to put his own life on the line at Attica. Thank you for giving him to this world.
