Dear Sera, Sal, Nella and Aunt Marilyn,
My heart is heavy knowing the pain you have of losing my Godfather. Uncle Nello had a profound impact upon my life from early childhood birthday parties at your house to Vietnam. I remember coming home to Chicago from the war and he made me eat 2 T Bones he grilled out because it had been over a year since I had a good steak. Your Dad was there more than you know when my Dad died in 1980 and he just said were family call for anything you need. The candy, oh the candy always there, always available and always great just like Uncle Nello. Thanks Uncle Nello for letting me know and love you.
My heart and prayers are with you all,
Dickie

To all the Ferrara Family,
Our thoughts and our prayers are with you on the passing of Nello. The kindness that he shared with the Bevilacqua family over many years will never be forgotten. It truly was a special friendship of two families.
There were always boxes of candy for all of us grandkids. We sure had it good back then. Thank you, Nello.

Mr Farrara came to Bermuda Dunes Golf Club to play golf during part of the winter. We met in 1976 when I was an Assistant Pro there. In 1982, I was privileged to get reacquainted with Nello as a fellow member at Ridgemoor CC. Thank you for that occasional gift in my locker. Nello, you will be missed and rememberd as a real gentleman.

To the Ferrara family,
My sincerest condolences for the passing of Mr. Ferrara. The pleasure that he gave to the world is immeasurable and lasting. Like so many, I grew up watching double features while eating a box of Jawbreakers or Atomic Fireballs. I will take a box of Red Hots over a 72% chocolate bar any day!

Like many others we grew up with Lemonheads, Fireballs and Boston Baked Beans. But we also grew up with Ferrara Pan Candy, as our Dad worked there for many years in the shipping department. He (as well as our Mother) always loved that place, and we "kids" thought it was so cool that our Dad worked for such a popular "candy factory." Thanks for the memories...we will keep the Ferrara family in our prayers.

My condolences to the family. My four sons were born in Oak Park Hospital which has a window overlooking the big Ferrara Pan Candy sign. Lemonheads and Red Hots are my favorites and last year when we visited Chicago we stopped at Ferrara's Bakery. We have been shopping there for 50+ years and my mother-in-law even longer than that. I mentioned how much I loved Lemonheads and I was given a few boxes of them, free. Thank you for making life a little sweeter, Mr. Ferrara, and God Bless You and Your Family.

Nello's funeral Mass was a beautiful and memorable event for a remarkable man. Sal's eulogy was very well written and articulately spoken. Words alone cannot pay tribute to Nello whom we all loved. I can recall singing with him more than once--and competing for the microphone. I will never forget how he, in July 1979, on almost no notice invited me with about 30 judges and lawyers from Milan and Rome over to his home for a barbeque. Father Fahey was there and we all had a most unusual experience. Men like him are born rarely. Many will miss and mourn his loss. He left an incredible family behind as his legacy. He has built a monument more lasting than bronze.
February 7, 2012
A few years ago I had the pleasure of having lunch with Nello and his family, along with my aunt, Gilda Bevilacqua. Gilda and my mother, Josephine, grew up in Nelson where Nello and his sisters would spend some precious childhood summers. I will forever remember his fondness and respect for her, and she for him. And here was a man who with his tremendous success, never forgot his roots or the people who had helped him along life's way. He was an uncommon man and will be dearly missed..
