Paul Pohlman Obituary
Poynter Vice President Roy Peter Clark says Pohlman passed away Wednesday in St. Petersburg.
According to Poynter's website, Pohlman started teaching at the institute in 1979, joining fulltime 10 years later as head of what was then called the Management Center. Since then, he led leadership programs and coordinated international training. Pohlman was part of the team that helped establish the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Before going to work for Poynter, Pohlman was director of management development programs and newspaper management education at the University of Chicago, where he also earned a master's degree in history. His earned his undergraduate degree at Cornell College in Iowa.

Like so many other journalists around the country, I am grateful to Paul for his teaching, which I can only describe as kind. I attributed this to the fact that he's from Iowa, but since this is also my home state, that can't be the full explanation. I think the journalism gods gave him to us because we needed him so much. We will miss him.

We are so sorry for the loss of your brother and uncle. We are deeply saddened and have been praying for your family in this time of loss. He was truly an inspiring man who touched so many lives. I read this in all the stories about how he inspired and helped his colleagues and students. We are so sorry the world has lost such a wonderful teacher and friend to many, and Pohlman cousin. We are thinking of all of his family. He is now at peace and re-united with his parents and family.
