So sad to know that she won't be there to keep the flow of words in the way we've come to appreciate in the Sun paper. It'd be good to see the Sun will continue her proud advance for editorial standards by starting a springboard for young editorial candidates with promise.

To the Corey Family,
I went to Dulaney and then Notre Dame. I had several classes with Mary. She always had a smile on her face, and was such a loving, and kind soul. I am devastated learning of her passing, and am praying for all of you.

Our family grew up next door to Mary and her family in Cockeysville. I"m so very sad and proud to hear of Mary's phenomenal accomplishments! I've been a nurse living in Chicago for 20+ years and the Corey family should be very proud to know that the Chicago Trib had a huge, wonderful article about Mary. I remember her as a child and young lady and what a sweetheart she was way back then. My condolences to the entire Corey family. I can't imagine losing a sibling, especially one as influential as Mary seems to have been to everyone she has touched. God bless. We all know she's in a good place.

I sat next to Mary in Miss Jackson's journalism class in 10th grade – and what I remember most is not the fact that she was a fantastic writer. I remember her compassion for Paul, a student with Cerebral Palsy who sat behind us. Paul was in a wheelchair, and could not speak. He used an alphabet board to communicate. Mary always went out of her way to include Paul, to make sure he was part of the class, and as much as possible part of a regular student experience. Mary became Paul's ambassador in the class – and looking back over the countless memories I have of our friendship, including sleep overs, her goofy laugh, dinners, Ocean City, Christmas gatherings, a trip to New York, her cool apartment in Baltimore with the scary elevator, what first came to mind was her servants heart and her ability to see beyond herself to the needs of those around her. She did this for me and my friends countless times. My heart is crushed that I lost touch with her these last several years. Kathleen, Mrs. Corey, and Margaret, and the rest of Mary's family, my prayer is that the Lord would comfort your hearts with His love, like only He can.

Mary was a kind and wonderful person as well as a talented journalist. When I was Food and Home Editor of The Sun in the late 1980s, Mary was a news assistant. I recognized her spark and her desire to do good work and promoted her to be one of my reporters. She never disappointed in her work or in her relationships with others. My condolences to her family. I want you to know we all loved and respected Mary.

I am inconsolable. Mary was a dear friend from the moment I met her over twenty years ago when she was a features reporter and I worked in the art department. She remained one of the kindest, smartest, most gracious people I've ever had the honor to know. I do know she was universally loved. I may be far away in Georgia but she was and will always be one of my "Baltimore girls."

My life was made much, much bigger and brighter by knowing this remarkable person. I think it very likely that a sweeter soul has not walked the Earth in my lifetime, and I treasure the many hours of charming conversation and friendship that I was able to spend with Mary. I'm sure there is no friend, no family member who is not feeling her loss deeply, and I grieve with you. I hope that some solace comes from feeling the gentle warmth that she seemed to spread everywhere. So long, old friend. I miss you, and I thank you.

I knew Mary in her high school years. She was very smart with a quiet determination about her that earned her much respect and many friends. I was not surprised to learn that Mary had earned a coveted spot as an intern with The Sun during college. I was equally thrilled for her (but again - not surprised!) when she rose through the ranks to earn the top editorial post there. You'll be missed by many, Mary.
