Grady Hatton Obituary
Alyssa Hatton, his granddaughter, says Hatton died Thursday of the effects of old age at his home in Warren, the rural East Texas Piney Woods town that was his home for 40 years.
Hatton hit .254 with 91 home runs and 533 RBIs in 1,312 major league games in 12 seasons from 1946 to 1960 with the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs. He had a 164-221 record as Houston's manager from 1966-68.
The Beaumont native starred at the University of Texas and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
A funeral is scheduled for Monday at First Baptist Church of Warren. He will be buried Mount Pisgah Cemetery near Woodville.

I Heard a lot about Grady growing up. My Dad was a good friend and was from Beaumont. Harvey Curly Jones was my Fathers name and he went to Beaumont High. He then went to Lamar & Baylor and was drafted to play for the Cleveland/Los Angeles Rams that won the National Championship in 1945. He then played for the Washington Redskins. My Dad was born about the same time as Grady, April 15, 1921. I remember my Dad talking to Grady on the phone for long periods of time, reminiscing about old times. I was thinking about my Dad this morning and the Name Grady Hatton came to my mind. I did an Internet search and found this Obituary. If you happen to read this and know of my Dad, please call or email me please. My mother was Edna M. Rucker/Jones. My Dad was a great father for our family. Taught me to play golf, hunt, fish, and the value of family. I have have a huge scrapbook from as early as the Beaumont High Days. Would love to talk with anyone that might be interested! Thanks!

Grady Hatton was a prince. Just prior to his death I talked to Grady about the old days in Beaumont. I lived on Linson and Live Oak St. a stones through from Grady. Thanks for God's mercy and Justice that we are able to gain back what Adam lost. A new heaven and a new earth awaits us. Albert Lombardo Atl. Ga.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of
Grady and my sincerest condolences to the
Hatton family. I had the pleasure to meet Grady back in 1983 while visiting
Texas baseball players, and later in 2011. Both times Grady was wearing those trademark bib-overalls. I really
enjoyed Grady's Baseball stories and I
will always treasure the time he spent
with me. If there is a Hall Of Fame in
Heaven, I can guarantee Grady's in. May

I was lucky enough to still have a couple of his baseball cards.As an adult some 40 years later he honored my autograph request.

My sympathy to the family of Grady Hatton. My dad always thought that we might be related but not close enough to show up in our family tree. I have lived in the Cincy area all my life and was very young when Grady played for the Reds! Go with God and you will be on the winning team!

As a native Houstonian I appreciate what Grady Hatton did for Houston and our Astros in those early years in the Dome. I have a ton of special memories from that time period with my Dad and our family. Will be praying for an awareness of God's presence and compassion for the family during the days to come. When I was growing up in the South in the 1940's and 50's, we played a game called "Ethan Allen's All-Star Baseball" and Grady Hatton was one of the third basemen.

I saw my first pro game on a rainy night at Fenway in 1954. Grady Hattan covered 3rd with others with such names as Hoot Evers and Teddy Ballgame---for me, it was like watching gods vie for control of the universe. God be good to Grady.
