Hi Shane, my Dear Big Brother. I'm having a hard time rt now, even years later, so I got online to look at all the amazing messages ppl wrote for u, Katie, the boys plus JuDee & Lou. And It makes me feel a little better & reminds me that I will see u again 1 day. My Dreams r still trying to save u but that will pass & I will cope. Knowing how truly Happy u were, u all were, is such a confusing emotion in my heart. But u r all together still & Thank God for that. It truly keeps my heart a lil fuller to know that. But Brother I miss u so much & I can't wait to be with u all again 1 day. So many questions & so many unanswered prayers. But doing this helps cause I feel like u will hear me! RIP Big Bro & Thank You for being You for the yrs I had u, I Love You!!!

Shane was a good friend to a lot of people. He always helped his friends and family when they need it. I never met a smarter individual in my life than Shane. I and many others will miss him. My heart goes out to his family especially his sister, who has had to be so strong through all this.

Shane and Katie were a powerful couple with high values and a great sense of family. They replaced all the windows in our three story home and by the time the project was completed, I had met the entire family and we had became friends. A terrible loss. I can still hear Shane's wonderful voice.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the citizens of Oso, Washington, especially those closest to the Ruthven and Vandenburg families. Shane is remembered fondly by those who were fortunate enough to have spent time with him. His love for his family and his desire to make sure that they remained united in a bond of love, closeness, and affection was amazing during a time when family members are so divided. Surely his life course is stored indelibly in God's memory as one who is precious in His eyes.

Shane and I were the best of friends all through childhood. There is not a day of my childhood that I can think of that my brother from another mother was not in. Losing him so suddenly has been a heart breaking jolt in my life. As adults we found ourselves apart but we always kept in touch via phone calls or messages on facebook. I always felt that when the time was right we would once again meet and introduce our two families to each other. Shane will be missed by not only myself but my whole family as well. Shane, I will always regret not being able to get together with you and your family one last time before we both got too old. Brother I will Pray for you and your family from the very being of my heart and soul. We all lost you way too soon. To the surviving members of your family you already know you have my heart and deepest condolences.

Shane and I were close friends in high school and have remained in touch over the years. He loved Katie so much and being a father was his greatest joy. I am so sorry for the loss both families must be feeling and as one of his many friends, I know how much we are missing him and wishing this terrible thing had never happened. My deepest condolences to everyone during this difficult time.
