Earl and the Detroit Lions came to play the SF 49ers at old Kezar Stadium in 1959 when I was 10. After the game my mother who was a 2nd cousin to Earl, introduced me to him. He spent a few minutes with us, and I was walking next to him on the field when he gave me his grey and white chinstrap. I never forgot that kindness and still have that chinstrap today. On the same day, Dick LeBeau gave me a gray Lions practice T-shirt with his number 44 on it. It was a banner day for a young kid. I followed Earl's career throughout the years, and learned what a humanitarian he was. He was a great role model for me.

Its the day after Christmas. Earl was part of my familys conversations at yesterdays dinner table. It still saddens me that he is not around.
But the forever memories he left behind will last forever. I was one of the lucky ones to be a friend of Earls. When i reflect back, i wish i had spent more time with him. His outlook on everything was positive. Always kind words. When an issue arises now, I say, what would Earl do. And it calms the situation, makes things clear, and a solution comes quickly. He was a bigger part of my life then i realized. He is missed by all who knew him.
Heaven has gotten their angel back.

The greatest guy you could ever meet. The world could use a lot more earls to make it a better place. If you, were lucky enough to meet him, he always left a lasting impression. His demeanor, manners, and presence was incredible. You are missed dearly by your friends, family, and anyone he met. Loved the stories.
Just thinking of you.

just thinking of how this one man touched so many lives wherever he went. He was a friend to whomever shook his big hand. Greatly missed by family and friends. Words cannot describe how his entire life was a gentle giant walking thru lifes obstacles and never once complaining about any of them. We could all use a small piece of what earls perspective was in life. humble, gracious, and all with an upstanding character that will go unmatched.

I had the honor of driving Mr.Morrall in the Seaway Festival Parade in his hometown of Muskegon, Michigan, back in about 1975. He was Grand Marshal, and I remember thinking what a giant of a man he was physically. Now I know he was a giant of a man in more important ways. I will always cherish that memory. Blessings and prayers to his family, Tom Case

Shortly after Earl retired, I used him in a TV commercial and had him as a speaker at our annual sales meeting. I found him to be easy to work with and a very pleasant person. He continually reminded my that when he played at Michigan State, they beat my alma mater, Ohio State. I send my sympathy and best wishes to his wife and family.

Dear Jane and family, we are so sorry to hear the sad news about Earl. He was a very special man. We were your neighbors in Farmington, Michigan and our kids played together. So many good memories. Have saved all the Christmas cards and news. We also attended MSC before it became a university, so lots of fond memories and will always cherish them. God bless all of you and am sure my Harold is there to greet Earl in Heaven. Love, Laura Beaubien and family.

My hero-Earl Morrall,All American Qb for the Mich State Spartans,Rose bowl winner x two,and third baseman on MSU mens baseball team that went to the college world Series. An all state FB & BB star for Muskegon,MIch HS as well. He went on to a 21 year career in the NFL,played in two Super Bowl championships, and led the Colts to a 16-13 victory over "Americas Team"-the Dallas Cowboys. NFL player of the year 1968 throwing for 2,909 yds and 26 TD's for the Baltimore Colts enroute to a 13-1 season. In 1972, led the Miami Dolphins to the only unbeaten team in NFL history - I knew him personally for a brief time when we were both hospitalized at the same time in the MSU infirmary. An amazing athlete and human being- also not a bad chess player. RIP, good buddy !

I was always intrigued by the fact that there was an outstanding American sportsman who shared my surname, which is not terribly common.
In consequence, I became interested in Earl, who, from what I understand, was not only an outstanding football player, but also a very fine person.
I am a New Zealander - born and bred and first became aware of him thanks to an article featured in Time magazine in the early 1970's.
His passing has come as quite a shock to me and even though I never met him, I almost feel as though he was family to me.
I wish to extend my kindest thoughts to his family during this sad time.
Bless you all,
Jeremy Morrall

In the late 50's/early 60's MSU staged an 'old timers' football game every spring with the varsity playing against a squad of former players. In 1961, when I was 8 years old, somehow my parents arranged for me to be the mascot for the old timers team. Earl was in charge and called me 'Tiger'. I thought that he was the greatest. We met up again when Darryl Rogers renewed the old timers game with the MSU varsity in 1977, and Earl once again led a team of former players. A tremendous guy, on & off the field. God Bless

Earl Morrall was a man who did not need to be defined nor did he need to be validated. He loved the game of football, and he played it well for a season. Even more so, he loved his family and his community and he devoted himself to both for a lifetime. Surely the Morrall family can find comfort in knowing that a fine record of him has been stored indelibly in God's memory and that he is precious in God's eyes. With a broken heart over your untimely loss, my family and I offer our deepest sympathy!

Condolences to the Family of Mr. Earl Morrall-
We are deeply saddened to hear the news about Mr. Morrall. We hope that the thoughts and spiritual texts of comfort in this guest book console you and that you know you are not forgotten. Although with extreme sadness for your loss we visitors are induced to remember life's brevity and of the thing of most importance is the way we live our lives now. As we recall Mr. Morrall's legacy of kindness, generosity, and selflessness, in the public eye and in his private life, we know the good name he made. And a good name with God by doing good works is the thing of real value.
Please draw comfort from the wonderful memories and laughter of your lives together and that he is in God's memory too!

To The Morrall Family,
I remember those Dolphin years with pride. And one of my prize memories is when I had the honor of Earl playing in my forsesome in my Pete & Danny's (Restaurant) Open in Fort Myers in 1981.
