Michael Johns Obituary
The network and his family released statements Saturday confirming the Australian-born singer's death.
His family says it appreciated the support streaming in from around the world but said the loss of "a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend" was devastating.
Fox called Johns "an incredible talent" and a part of the show's family who would be missed.
Johns had never been in the show's bottom three vote-getters when he was eliminated in April 2008. After "Idol," he released an album, "Hold Back My Heart," in 2009.
The Hollywood Reporter says Johns died Friday. A cause of death wasn't immediately available.

It was a week ago tonight I found out the shockingly sad news that Michael Johns had died. With tears in my eyes, I went to You Tube and pulled up the video of what I thought was his best & most moving performance on Idol--him singing Dolly Parton's song "It's All Wrong, but it's All Right." Six years ago when he sang this song on Idol, I was so blown away by his performance, that I called my boyfriend and played it for him over the phone. This time, I called him again and told him the sad news--and played it for him one more time. I really feel that Michael had everything it takes to be a huge star. Unfortunately, the entertainment business is tough, and it didn't quite work out that way for him. Still, he got to do what he loved in life and made in on to a t.v. show with an audience of millions of people--How many people will ever be able to say they did that? This morning I woke up and Michael's song "Heart on My Sleeve" was playing in my head. I'd only heard this song a couple of times, so how it stuck in my head all night and I woke up hearing it, I don't know. Michael, your music lives on in the hearts of those of us who loved and admired you. I wonder what song of yours I'll wake up hearing in my head tomorrow. Rest in peace.

My heart goes out to Michael's wife, family, friends and fans, who will all miss him so much. I, myself, feel a great loss, and I never even had the pleasure of meeting him. He was one of those people you were just drawn to, even if you were just looking at him on your TV screen. He had a great heart and soul, that came across, no matter where he was or what he was doing. He was the real deal, without any of the phoniness sometimes found in the entertainment business. He was amazingly talented, yet very humble.
I'd never even watched Idol, and during Michael's season, a friend called and told me I HAD to watch, that there was this guy named Michael Johns and he would blow me away with his talent. She was so right. As luck would have it, that year, for the first and only time, (I think) the AI tour came to my town and I'm so glad I went, as that turned out to be the one and only time I'd get to see/hear Michael perform in person.
Earth will be a less magical place without Michael Johns, but we will still be able to watch and listen to his videos and CD's. I'm sure Heaven is a more heavenly place now, since there's no doubt in my mind that Michael will continue to make beautiful music.

Watching Michael on Idol was a joy. His rendition of well known songs was amazing and losing him early on the show was a shock. Now losing his life so young is another great loss. We were fortunate to have met him from afar through Idol.

I cried when I read he had died, so sad. I loved him on American Idol and have his music on my iPod. His "Heart on my Sleeve" was my favorite song. It is hard to believe he's gone. He seemed like a genuine good person and was a great singer. May he rest in peace and prayers to his family.
