Frank Torre Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2014.
NEW YORK (AP) - Former World Series star Frank Torre, who helped put little brother Joe on a path that led to the Hall of Fame, has died. He was 82.

The Major League Baseball commissioner's office said Torre died Saturday at a hospice in Palm Beach, Florida. He had previously received heart and kidney transplants, and had been ill in recent years with cancer.

Torre played seven seasons in the majors with the Milwaukee Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. Though he hit only 13 home runs in 1,482 career at-bats in the regular season, he homered twice during the seven-game World Series in 1957 as Milwaukee beat the New York Yankees for its only championship.

Frank Torre was nearly nine years older than Joe and guided his signing with the Braves.

Joe Torre starred as a player, won four titles while managing the Yankees and was inducted into the Hall last summer.

Brooklyn lost a good alumnius, and our Lord called up a great player. Many may know Bob & Ken Aspromonte, Jim Gentile, and Joe (Frank's little brother). I have only heard many great things about all of them. I thank Frank for helping many players while with BAT, and I thank your family for producing an all star. You are not forgotten. God Bless the Torre family.

My condolences to the Torre Family. Our life ebbs away because of your fury; And our years come to an end like a whisper. The span of our life is 70 years, or 80 if one is especially strong. But they are filled with trouble and sorrow; They quickly pass by, and away we fly. (Psalms 90:9,10)

There is Great Rejoicing in Heaven as Frank Joseph Torre is Joyously Welcomed by the Families and Friends that Preceded Him to the House of Our Holy Father. Frank was a cousin of my Father, and attended his Funeral when my Father passed away, also at age 82. These related Families produced Great Men and Great Women from a Generation that suffered hardship upon hardship, endured and thrived through them all, had the Great Fortune to enjoy Life and also bring Happiness to Others, they are being reunited together one by one. Sadness we have at their passing, for we will miss them dearly.

Back in those days Rocco was the manager of our first team, the Comets, I pitched, and Frank played first base. What great memories! My sincerest condolences to the whole family. Rest in peace, Frank.
