Raphael Ravenscroft Obituary
Ravenscroft's family says he died Sunday at a hospital in Exeter, southwest England.
The haunting sax break helped make Rafferty's 1978 song a hit. It reached No. 3 in Britain and No. 2 in the U.S., and still receives considerable airplay.
But in a 2011 radio interview, Ravenscroft said "Baker Street" irritated him — because his solo was flat.
Ravenscroft went on to work with musicians including Pink Floyd, ABBA and Marvin Gaye, and wrote instruction manual "The Complete Saxophone Player."
His daughter, artist Scarlett Raven, told the BBC her father was actually "very proud of 'Baker Street' and that it made people feel good."

I have a passion for the saxophone sound, and simply adored Ravenscroft's solo in Baker Street. I am so sorry for your loss; and must admit, it is a little too close for comfort when a 60-year old dies. I am hoping that you take hold of the words at Psalm 91:2.

I love that though so very talented, Raphael was still quite a humble person. I know too that though we lost an entertainer, he was a father, brother, son, uncle and grandpa to someone. Many condolences to the family. May you all find find comfort through God's love but also each other and the many memories you have of Rafael.

Prayers fill our hearts and burst forth from our mouths to God asking him to let us remember clearly the love we have for this wonderful person gone from our lives never forgetting the joy we shared. Men have plans , and they carry them out. Success is in the eye of the beholder, words of praise are from the admirer, love is from the one who cares. Without musicians like Raphael, music would truly sound flat. He shared his gift with the world. He will be missed but never forgotten. One day no one will evet have to die. It will be a thing of the past.I look forward to that time.
