Darrell Winfield Obituary
Darrell Hugh Winfield was 85. He died Monday at his home in Riverton, Davis Funeral Home said.
The Marlboro Man was a macho cowboy whose image in advertising from the 1950s to the late 1990s made filtered cigarettes more appealing to men. Previously Marlboros were marketed to women.

Winfield's rugged good looks made him the face of Marlboro cigarettes in magazine and television ads from the late 1960s to the late 1980s.
The Leo Burnett ad agency discovered Winfield in 1968 while he was working on the Quarter Circle 5 Ranch in western Wyoming.
Winfield was born July 30, 1929, in Little Kansas, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, son, five daughters and several grandchildren.

I remember Mr. Whitfield, My uncle used to smoke Marlboro cigarettes, Because of him I always wanted to be a cowboy. But more importantly after reading later in life about his love for country and the native Americans, the depth of the human spirit. I have developed a deep respect for all he worked hard for especially his love for his family. He was in every respect a "Real man." rest peacefully in the arms of the great spirit my friend.

Winfield Family, my deepest sympathy is sent to you during this time. When losing a parent no matter how old we are, it's still hard. When Darrel hears God's voice he will wake up to a world where he will return to the vigor of his youth.

For the Winfield Family & Friends: I enjoyed seeing him in all the commercials during his era. My boyfriend, during that time, smoked Marlboro cigarets and we would comment on it every time we saw the commercials of the 'Marlboro Man'.
