Chris Burden Obituary
His friend, Paul Schimmel, tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/1RsaAKY ) that Burden died Sunday from melanoma at his home in LA's Topanga Canyon.
Burden's performance art in the 1970s included putting himself at personal risk. In one piece, he had an assistant shoot him in the arm.
He also made complex installations, some with thousands of pieces, and works that had automated functions.
For the entrance of the LA County art museum, Burden created the 2008 sculpture "Urban Light" using 202 restored iron street lamps.
Other works are in museums in New York, London and around the world.

Chris was a guest artist when I was at UC Fresno. He infected all of us with his intensity and drive. I was working in my studio when I heard of his death, Thanks Chris you were a inspiration. happy Trails
