Like other respondents, I, too, was saddened to learn of Bevo's passing. During the late 1950's and early 1960's, as a student at Ohio State University, I was a great fan of his. More than a fan. He was my hero and sports legend. So much so, that a close friend of mine gave me the nickname "Bevo"....My friend, Larry, from Steubenville, Ohio, who also passed way 6 years ago, Recently, I started a new horse racing business, "Bevo Racing LLC"...I hope soon, with my small investors, to celebrate our horse's 1st victory at the finish line in both my friend's and Bevo's honor!.
If we should get lucky, our first yearling will be named...You guessed it: BEVO...God bless him and my condolences to the Francis family

Mr. Bevo's modest demeanor greatly enhanced his athletic ability. For this, he is fondly remembered. I am very sorry for your loss and would like to remind you that our heavenly Father and grand Creator is very near to those broken at heart and crushed in spirit. Allow him to provide you comfort while you mourn your loss.

Our condolences to the Francis family and many friends. May you find comfort in years of fond memories together and the words of the greatest man who ever lived: Lazarus, come out!+ 44 The man who had been dead came out with his feet and hands bound with wrappings, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them: Free him and let him go. John 11:43,44

I also was given the nick name Bevo by my 6th grade teacher, I carried that name all thru high school and to this day a few old friends still call me by that name and I am 74. I am proud to have been given that name, and I am truly sorry for your loss.

In the mid 50's I had the honor of seeing Bevo play on a team that traveled with the Globetrotters. He had to be fresh out of college, but viewing him you'd swear he was a seasoned veteran. As a kid I knew very well of his accomplishments and really held him in high esteem above most other college players. I was crazy with joy to see him and have always remembered this night strongly. This was in Lansing Michigan and is a great sports memory for me.

Remember reading about Francis in the 50's, I had the nickname "Bevo" given by an official scorer in high school because I shot so much, as did many gunners. Rio Grande actually had a team that would of given either Ohio St or Cincy a good game. >>>><<<<<<
