Wendell Holmes Obituary
Paul Kahn, Holmes' manager, says the 71-year-old musician died Friday at his home in Rosedale, Maryland. Kahn says Holmes died of complications from pulmonary hypertension.
Holmes and his older brother, bassist Sherman Holmes, played churches in Virginia when they were growing up, and after high school, played professionally in New York. Drummer Willie "Popsy" Dixon started working with the brothers and they played the bar circuit. The three formed The Holmes Brothers in 1979.
Dixon died in January.
Kahn says Wendell Holmes was a natural musical talent, and said his most popular song was the soul ballad "We Meet, We Part, We Remember."

Our sincere condolences to the Holmes family. We will miss Wendell immensely. I'm Bro- n - law by way of my sister married to Milton, Wendell's brother. I've seen Wendell & the Holmes Brother play many times here in New Jersey and other locations.Their musical talent was impeccable. May the family keep GOD in forefront and HE will comfort and guide them in their time of sorrow. Remember he lived using the talents GOD had given him and he did it well. GOD bless the family and comfort them. There is no one greater than GOD and HE knows what is best as we try to understand. Wendell is at rest with joy and happiness now.He wants you all to enjoy him in your memories.

I only heard The Holmes Bros once in concert...and it was marvelous. I heard Wendell many times at Grafton Baptist church when I was growing up. Even as a child I knew that his music was something special. Wendell was born to play music. The world has lost a passionate and talented musician. May he rest in God's care.

Dear Holmes Family - I am deeply saddened that we all have lossed a true friend, amazing artist of the highest caliber, and stellar musician, player, songwriter and superb singer of wonderful songs. I know that my wife and I were both so very fortunate to have seen and heard Wendell and the Bros. play their fantastic music and also had the blessing of talking to Mr. Holmes several times and also meeting his wonderful young grandson Cameron. Just like his music and his art, Wendell so so warm and personable, so engaging and positive, that we will never forget how gracious he was and how important he made us feel about about ourselves and the gift of time we shared, however briefly, together. I know that he left this world a better place for being here with all of us and sharing with us a special part of himself through his music, endearing friendship and gratitude for all that life provides.
