Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 31, 2015.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Alan Cheuse, a longtime literary critic whose reviews and commentary were featured on National Public Radio for more than 25 years, has died at age 75.

NPR said on its website that Cheuse died Friday from injuries he suffered in a car accident in California two weeks ago.

Cheuse had been teaching creative writing most recently at George Mason University in Virginia, and had led fiction workshops at the Squaw Valley Community of Writers in California.

Cheuse wrote numerous pieces of short fiction as well as five novels. His latest book, "Prayers for the Living," was published this year.

We just learned of Alan's death. We are friends from the gym. For many years, we loved debating politics with Alan -- and reading his wonderful books. We are stunned. We will miss him very much.

To Sheldon and family,
I am so sad that you have lost your brother. The world has lost a very creative mind. Shelly, there are really no special words, but Someone wrote a note to me when my Dad died and it has stayed with me always. "Your loss is G-d's gain". Those words gave me peace.
