Planned Parenthood Shooting Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 28, 2015.
Three people were killed during a standoff with an armed gunman who occupied a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs Friday, Nov. 27, according to CNN.

One police officer, Garrett Swasey, 44, who worked for the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, was killed. He was one of the many officers who responded to a report of a fellow officer under fire. He was married with two children.

Two civilians were also killed. They have since been identified as Jennifer Markovsky, 35, who was at the Colorado Springs clinic Friday with a friend, Markovsky's father John Ah-King told ABC News. Markovosky's friend was one of the nine people injured during the shooting and taken to a hospital. The second civilian killed was identified as Ke'Arre Stewart, 29, a veteran of the Iraq War and the father of two, a relative of Stewart told ABC News.

Of the nine people injured by gunshot wounds, five were police officers.

Calls to 911 indicated that a shooter was inside the Planned Parenthood clinic at 11:30 a.m. local time. The clinic is located near a shopping complex, which was full of Black Friday shoppers. The gunman exchanged fire with police, and a nearly six-hour standoff ensued.

The suspected gunman, identified as Robert Lewis Dear, 59, surrendered to law enforcement officers at 4:52 p.m. No motive for the attack has been released.

The attack has cast a long shadow over the holiday weekend, when Americans celebrate family and togetherness. It served as a stark reminder to not take that time for granted.

Let's pray there comes a time when rational thinking prevails. A time when dealing with issues of any kind no longer involve violence or a gun. My heartfelt prayers and sympathy are to all who have suffered the loss of a family member, friend, or neighbor.

To the families of the planned parenthood shooting victims

May God Bless And Comfort You

By: Charles G. Turner, Sr.

At times like this when we don't know what to do

Just talk to God and he will see you through

When words sometimes just won't do and you don't know what to say

Just talk to God and let him have his way

When friends and family come and go

Just remember that God has an open door

At times like this when words alone won't do

May God bless and comfort you

We are living in critical times as prophesied in the Holy Writings at 2 Timothy 3:1. May it comfort family and friends that their deaths were not committed in vain. God will seek justice for all who have suffered from hate crimes. He is a refuge and strength for all of us until the final war at Armageddon.
