Kalamazoo Shooting Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2016.
Six people were shot and killed when a man went on a shooting spree in the Kalamazoo, Michigan, area, according to CNN.

The suspect is now in custody. Two people were also injured during the shootings. The shootings happened at three different locations in the Kalamazoo vicinity.

Kalamazoo County prosecutor Jeff Getting said, “There is no reason to believe that the Saturday evening shooting rampage is related to terrorism.”

The Kalamazoo Public Safety Department has declared that the threat to the public is over.

State police on Sunday identified four of the six victims killed. All four Michigan residents were shot at a Cracker Barrel restaurant: Mary Lou Nye, 63, of Baroda; Mary Jo Nye, 60, of Battle Creek; Dorothy Brown, 74, of Battle Creek; and Barbara Hawthorne, 68, also of Battle Creek.

Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley said the other two victims were at a car dealership looking at a vehicle. Authorities identified them as Tyler Smith, 17, and Richard Smith, 53.

This is so sad and my heart breaks for the families of those who are reeling from this loss. When senseless things happen we need to know that our Heavenly Father is aware and truly cares, so He promises us that soon change is coming. Psalms 37:9-11, 29 gives much needed hope with a promise. May you share this hope.
