Douglas Slocombe Obituary
The British director of photography died Monday morning in a hospital in London, his daughter, Georgina, told the Agence France-Presse wire service.
Slocombe started out as a photojournalist documenting events during World War II. He then moved on to become a cinematographer for Ealing Studios in London. He worked with Steven Spielberg on the first three "Indiana Jones" movies and picked up an Oscar nomination for "Raiders of the Lost Ark." He also was nominated for the movies "Travels With My Aunt" and "Julia."
Other well-known movies that Slocombe worked on include "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Rollerball" and "The Great Gatsby." The last film that he did was 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom."
