Estelle Balet Obituary
Balet died of her injuries while snowboarding in the Orsieres region of Valais, Switzerland.
Swiss authorities received a call about the accident around 8 a.m. local time, and airlifted a rescue team to the site. They quickly found Balet’s body, but multiple attempts to resuscitate her were not successful.
Freeride World Tour, Balet's sponsor, said in a news release that Balet "was a naturally gifted shining star and demonstrated remarkable talent as she quickly became a household name on the Freeride World Tour, bringing home her second title as World Champion just a few weeks ago in Verbier."
Balet's sponsors also included The North Face, Swatch, and Audi.

Balet was the world champion in 2015 and 2016.
She was born Dec. 19, 1994, in Sion, Switzerland, and started skiing as a young girl. When she was 10, she switched to snowboarding.
After successfully completing the Freeride World qualifier, she entered the Freeride World Tour when she was 18.
With her 2015 win, she became the youngest-ever Freeride World Tour champion by winning the women's snowboard event.
She was recently featured in a short film called Paradigme, which showcases the skills of nationally and internationally known snowboarders in Valais.
