Fort Hood Flood Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 3, 2016.
Nine soldiers in Fort Hood, Texas, died June 2 after their military vehicle overturned as heavy rains pummeled the region.

“The 1st Cavalry Division is grieving after a training accident at Fort Hood during flash flooding this morning,” Maj. Gen. John Thomson, the commanding general, said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of several troopers and continue search operations. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated during this difficult time as we care for the families, loved ones and fellow soldiers of those impacted by this tragedy.”

All nine of the soldiers have since been identified: Spc. Yingming Sun, Staff Sgt. Miguel Angel Colonvazquez, Spc. Christine Faith Armstrong, Pfc. Brandon Austin Banner, Pfc. Zachery Nathaniel Fuller, Pvt. Isaac Lee Deleon, Pvt. Eddy Raelaurin Gates, Pvt. Tysheena Lynette James, and Cadet Mitchell Alexander Winey.

The soldiers – from the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division – were riding in a tactical vehicle that looks like a pickup truck with an open bed. The truck was passing through a low-lying area when it overturned into the water.

The bodies were recovered from the water downstream from the vehicle, according to a military news release.

May God Bless And Comfort You
By: Charles G. Turner, Sr.

At times like this when we don't know what to do
Just talk to God and he will see you through
When words sometimes just won't do and you don't know what to say
Just talk to God and let him have his way
When friends and family come and go
Just remember that God has an open door
At times like this when words alone won't do
May God bless and comfort you

American Veterans, our servicemen and women...and Patriots like the Fort Hood soldiers who gave their last full measure of devotion to America and to their countrymen. Because they let courage do their talking, we are free to speak our minds. Because they fought against tyranny, we are free to worship as we please. Because they gave up the comforts of home, we are free from want. Because they put themselves in harm's way, we are free to live without fear. May God Bless each one of these soldiers, and everyone who to them was family or a friend.
