Baghdad Bombing Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 3, 2016.
Two car bombs exploded over the weekend in Baghdad, killing at least 126 people, according to CNN.

The first incident happened Saturday in the Baghdad neighborhood of Karrada in a busy shopping district. The blast killed 125 people, wounding 147 others, police said. Of the victims, 25 were children.

Firefighting crews rescued those trapped in buildings that were damaged, including a retail stores, a coffee shop, and a gym.

The second bomb exploded at an outdoor market in the Shaab neighborhood of southeastern Baghdad, killing one person and wounding five others, police said.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Karrada attack in a statement posted on Twitter. The group said it was targeting Shiite neighborhoods. Karrada and Shaab are mostly Shiite.

"This is a cowardly and heinous act of unparalleled proportions, to target peaceful civilians in the closing days of the holy month of Ramadan including shoppers preparing for the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday," Ján Kubiš, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, said in a statement Sunday.

"This shows Daesh's wanton intentions to kill, maim and demoralize," he added, using the Arabic language acronym for the terror group, also known as ISIS or ISIL.

Deepest Sympathy to the Families. Know that just a little while longer our God promises that the wicked will not be found because that's all we know and expect, unfortunately, in this wicked world. Ps. 37:10, 11, 29. A loving Creator would not continue to allow this to happen indefinitely, so you can put your trust in him because he doesn't lie and he has the power to step in permanently to end all sufferings which will be soon. Pray to the God of Comfort for strength to cope with your grief now and stay close to him in prayer.
