Dallas Rally Shooting Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2016.
Five police officers were killed and seven other officers wounded late Thursday and early Friday in a sniper attack at a protest rally in downtown Dallas, Texas, according to multiple news sources.

The police were present to keep order at the peaceful demonstration, which was held to protest the recent police shootings of two black men, Alton Sterling of Louisiana and Philando Castile of Minnesota, in separate incidents.

President Barack Obama, who was attending a NATO summit news conference in Poland, reacted to the latest spate of violence.

"Today is a wrenching reminder of the sacrifices they make for us," Obama said of law enforcement.

Police have not released an official list of the names of the five officers killed in the attack. On social media, however, two of the victims were identified.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit tweeted, "DART grieving the loss of Ofc Brent Thompson, 43, killed during Thurs protest. First DART officer killed in line of duty. Joined DART 2009."

"Our hearts are broken," a news release by DART said. Three other DART officers who were wounded in the attack are expected to recover from their injuries, the release said.

Also on Twitter, Dylan Martinez identified his stepbrother Patrick Zamarripa as one of the victims.

"No father should have to bury his son, Martinez tweeted. "You are a hero, Patrick. Love you man. #PrayforDallas"

Martinez's tweet included a photo of Zamarripa in uniform standing with his father.

Check back for more about the victims in this developing story.

Violence against each other is never fault free. It is all the worse when an unknown kills another unknown. Their paths would never have crossed but a bullet connected them. We as a country, as a people need to pray. We are at a crossroad and the consequences if continued bad choices made are grim.

I PRAY FOR THE POLICE OFFICERS, AND THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS. IIN MY OPINION, ITS NOT ABOUT BLACK LIVES, WHITE LIVES, OR ANY OTHER ETHNICITY. WHY DONT WE ALL FOLLOW GODS LAWS. "THOU SHALL NOT KILL". ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURES, ALL LIVES MATTER. OUR LORD DID NOT CREATE US TO BE ANYTHING ELSE BUT A LOVING, RESPECTFUL, CARING, HONEST PEOPLE. NO MATTER WHAT YOUR FAITH IS, WE SHOULD ALL LOVE ONE ANOTHER, CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER, HELP ONE ANOTHER. EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET RID OF THEIR PRIDE AND FILL YOUR MIND, BODY, SPIRIT, SOUL WITH LOVE. I PRAY FOR THIS WORLD, IN JESUS NAME
