Baton Rouge Shooting Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2016.
Three law enforcement officers were killed Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after a gunman ambushed them, according to multiple news sources. Three other officers were wounded in the attack.

The gunman died in a shootout with the police.

Killed were Baton Rouge Officers Montrell Jackson and Matthew Gerald. The third victim, Brad Garafola, 45, was an East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputy. His death was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was a 24-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. At the time of his death, he was working in civil processing and foreclosures, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release posted on its Facebook page.

Grieving Victims of Violence.

"These men are husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers," Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. "We are devastated to lose one of our own, and another is now in a fight for his life. We are asking for your prayers at this time. We will get through this together as a family and as a community."

“Today our hearts are heavy because we lost two members of our BRPD family,” the Baton Rouge Police Department said in a news release posted on the department’s official Facebook page.

According to the department, Jackson, 32, had been a Baton Rouge officer for a decade, and he had a 4-month-old child. Gerald, 41, had served the department for less than a year.

“Both of these men were assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau and were great examples of what it means to protect and serve – a mission they demonstrated through their work at the department and in their daily lives.

“As Chief (Carl) Dabadie said at this afternoon’s press conference, it is a sad day for all those in our law enforcement family, both within BRPD and beyond, as we face this senseless act of violence. During this difficult time, our prayers continue to be with all those affected by today’s shooting, including especially the loved ones of MONTRELL JACKSON and MATTHEW GERALD, as well as each and every member of our department and our community. We ask you to join us in prayer both for those affected, and for peace across Baton Rouge and our entire nation.”

My sympathies to the families of these brave men. No one deserves to be murdered. God allowed these men to police us and I'm thankful; without some form of law we would have complete chaos. There will a time where these violatile times will be a distant memory, according to Revelation 21:3,4.

I sincerely give you my condolences, it sadden me even though the bible talks about these times at 2 Timothy the 3 chapter, he promises to do away with wicked at Ps 37:10. This act of violence was senseless, and I am so sorry.
