Kabul Protest Bombing Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 23, 2016.
At least 80 people were killed July 23, 2016, in a bombing attack on a peaceful demonstration in Kabul, Afghanistan, according to multiple news sources.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, which targeted a Shiite minority group during a peaceful demonstration in Afghanistan’s capital city. An Afghan security official told CNN that the attack was carried out by three people wearing explosive devices.

More than 200 people were wounded in the attack and taken to local hospitals. The crowd of demonstrators was mostly composed of the Hazara, a Shiite minority group from central Afghanistan. They came to the capital to protest for an electrical power line to pass through their region of the country.

The Hazara have been frequent targets of violence in the Sunni-majority nation. The attacks have often been carried out by the Taliban, but recently ISIS has stepped up its activity in the region.

“The President said that holding protests is the right of every citizen of Afghanistan” read an official statement from Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, “The President once again offered his condolences and sympathies to the families and loved ones of all those affected, and wished paradise for those martyred.”

Afghan government forces, bolstered by support from U.S. forces, continue to fight an insurgency across the country.

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for the families affected by this tragedy. May you find comfort in the warm memories of your loved ones. The moments spent with your loved ones made them happy too. May God give you peace and strength in the difficult days ahead. He cares for you and will not abandon you in your time of distress. Its truly sad to hear that attacks like these are becoming more frequent in our day. Innocent lives are lost and the pain that is left in those who lost a loved one is very great. May those who lost a loved one remember the invitation our heavenly father gives to each one of us in Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are toiling and loaded down, and I will refresh you." May you seek God in this hard time.

It's very sad to look at the news now-a-days. All these wicked acts of violence is terrible. Psalms 37 can bring us hope and comfort. It can even cause us to have joy since it tells the out come. May those affected have peace when reading these Words.

What a terrible tragedy! My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims of this violent act. One day soon these attacks will be a thing of the past. Psalms 37:10 says, "Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there." May you find peace during this troubled time as we all await this promise."
