Padraig Duggan Obituary
Duggan died in a Dublin hospital after a recurring illness, the band announced.
Duggan, who also played the mandolin, founded the group in 1970 along with his twin brother, Noel. Other members of the group were siblings Moya Brennan, Paul Brennan, and Ciaran Brennan – who are nieces and nephews of Noel and Padraig Duggan. They released their debut studio album, “Clannad,” in 1973.
Clannad, which is Gaelic for “family,” released more than two dozen albums, and the band won a Grammy Award, a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award, an Ivor Novello honor for music writing, and a Billboard Music Award.
The band’s music was difficult to pin down. The musicians blended folk, traditional Irish, Celtic music, folk rock, and even new-age sounds to create unique music.

Moya Brennan announced the death via Twitter.
“My dear uncle and Clannad member Padraig Duggan passed away peacefully this morning. Rest in peace Padraig @ClannadMusic”
Clannad also shared the news in a Facebook post.
“Things will never be the same …… We will miss him dearly,” the band wrote.
Duggan is survived by his wife, Jan.

I have such beautiful memories of hearing and seeing Clannad perform in Napa, California, a few years ago. After the concert, at the meet-and-greet, Clannad were gracious and took the time to speak with each and every guest, nothing hurried, nothing contrived. Dear Padraig, rest peacefully.

What a sad loss of a person that had a moving impact on my life and love of Irish Music. Ironically I heard of his passing from Moyà at a concert in Milwaukee's Irish Fest. She dedicated Harry's Theme to his memory. Right now I'm listening to Clannad's CD Lore and remembering the good he provided and will continue to provide!
