Clyde Holloway Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 17, 2016.
Clyde C. Holloway, a former member of the U.S. Congress, died Oct. 16, 2016, at his home in Forest Hill, Louisiana, according to multiple news sources. He was 72.

At the time of his death, Holloway was chairman of the Louisiana Public Service Commission, which regulates public utilities, telephone companies, and intrastate trucking.

Holloway served constituents of the 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1993. The seat was eliminated in 1993 as a result of congressional redistricting. Holloway ran for Congress in later years, but he was unsuccessful.

Holloway, who was born Nov. 28, 1943, owned a nursery business that he started with his wife, Cathie Holloway. He had served on the Louisiana Public Service Commission since 2009. He was chairman from 2015 until the time of his death.

U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham shared his condolences in a Facebook post, praising Holloway as “a principled man.”

Eric Skrmetta, who served with Holloway on the commission, also praised the former congressman in a Facebook message. Holloway, he wrote, “was a true public servant with a long and storied career. He loved Louisiana and tried to do what was right at all times.”

Holloway is survived by his wife of 50 years, Catherine F. Holloway; two sons, Timothy and Mark Holloway; two daughters, Rebecca and Sara Holloway; and nine grandchildren.

I was so saddened to learn of Clyde's passing. He was my brother, Chuck's, best friend and I had the pleasure of getting to know him way back when I was a teenager. I always smile when I think back on those days. I was fortunate enough to see him 2 years ago at Linda's birthday party. My deepest sympathy to the whole family.

Clyde was always willing to help someone and steered me in the right direction when I was in DC at the same time he was in Congress. I remember him mentioning in a conversation at the nursery on 9/10/01 that he was headed to DC tomorrow and I was so worried for him the next tragic day. Luckily, he was able to avoid the danger and continue to serve the state he loved so much. No one can replace him, but I hope many aspire to emulate his great deeds. God bless the entire family.

In the 11th chapter of Hebrews, the apostle Paul mentions the great cloud of faithful men and women of pre-Christian times. He concludes, pointing to the greatest and perfect example of faith: We look intently at the Chief Agent and Perfecter of our faith, Jesus. For the joy that was set before him he endured a torture stake, despising shame ... Hebrews 12:1-3. May your faith help in your time of loss. My condolence.

To the Clyde Holloway Family: We share your loss; Clyde was a faithful public servant who did what he could to advance this great country. My daughter, Liesl, worked on his 1st congressional campaign in Shreveport and our family has a fondness for Clyde and, by extension, for his family. Although you mourn in the loss, you can take comfort in being his family. May God bless you in this loss!

What a truly amazing man!! I'm blessed to have been brought up in the F.H.A. family. I made lifelong friends, and Mr. Clyde was the foundation on which those friendships were built. Between school, the Nursery Festival, the Speedway, weekends spent at his house with his daughters Rebecca and Sara, I've got so many beautiful childhood memories. Mr. Clyde will be missed terribly, but I'll hold dear to my heart his love for his family, community, and all of us blessed to have known him. Say hi to my Dad for me!!!!!
