Tennessee Wildfire Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 29, 2016.
Three people have died from the wildfires in the Great Smoky Mountain region of Tennessee, according to multiple news reports.

Officials announced the three fatalities at a news conference Tuesday afternoon. Gov. Bill Haslam said that “a lot of us have heavy hearts” and described the blaze as the largest in Tennessee in the last 100 years.

“It’s a little numbing to be honest with you to see the extent of the damage,” Haslam added.

Officials did not give any additional information about the victims, saying they were still working to identify them. Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller said that 14 people had also been transported to hospitals for injuries. He added that searchers had not yet reached all of the affected areas.

“We pray that we don’t experience any more fatalities,” Miller added.

The wildfires have damaged hundreds of buildings around the eastern Tennessee resort towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge in the last 24 hours, officials said.

"People were basically running for their lives," Gatlinburg Mayor Mike Werner, said in describing the scene in the resort city.

The fires were powered by drought conditions and high winds with gusts over 80 miles per hour. Miller did say that the wind has calmed down and "the worst is definitely over with."

The lost of a loved one is never easy, tragic lost can be devastating but we go on...because we have to, because our loved one would want us to...we go on. There will be many hills and valleys in the days, months, and years to come and eventually the sun will shine again and joyful memories will fill your heart and smiles will come and peace will come.
May the God of all comfort, family and friends give you strength to go on. My deepest sympathy for your loss.

To All That Are Affected by The Tennessee Wild Fires

God Will Heal
By; Charles G. Turner, Sr.

When our lives are filled with turmoil and strife
Just pray to God
And he will heal and make things right

When things go wrong as they sometimes do
Just take it to the God
And he will see you through

Also remember during times of sickness and sorrow
And the pain seems to linger for so long
Just Know that when you take it to God
He will heal and make you strong

This has been a tragedy for so many! Our sincere condolences to the families. God has an earnest longing and desire to bring such ones back to life. The faithful man Job said - "If an able bodied man dies can he live again? You will call, and I myself shall answer you. For the work if your hands you will have a yearning"
